My favorite years are 1999-2004. Maybe its because I didn't start listening until 2010 and I was 9 years old in '98. That being said, why is this so appealing for everyone? Would love to read a good take on this.
Others have basically covered it, but being the first show from the BTCS summer tour is huge, the sound they had in 98 was special. They still had that early sound but added a lot more great material to the sets, and this is before they started filling the stage and sound with more guests.

Guests are very cool on occasion and especially so these days. But my favorite sound is the 5 core members, my favorite years being 93-2000. This is when the band began to peak in my opinion. It's just magic.

It's DMB in their prime and nearing the peak. This is essential DMB.

They mentioned it in the write up, so I think it'll make the cut. Although, they did name the incorrect Marley tune

First LT order in years. Would have paid a lot of $ for a vinyl release. First 98 Stone is worth the entire show for me.

Have to disagree, respectfully. It changed when Roi passed. The Taylor 914c sounded beautiful on Seek Up. Ask SPAC 2001.

THAT is what drew people into their music. What made DMB what they are today was an incredible drummer, a soulful sax player and showman violin player as leads, a young bass prodigy and a guy with a whacky voice and an acoustic guitar in jam pants.

Never has a 98 show with only the five original members been released. I’d say that’s unique. There’s also not a single bad song on that setlist. Whether you’ve heard them for years or not, we don’t have that many “original five” shows in the grand scheme. Only thing I don’t like about this release is they missed my first show by 4 days!

    Nailed. It.

It’s hard to look at this and pick out any negative thing. The set is perfect, leroi instead of Jeff/rashawn, DMB approaching their prime and one of the best years overall for the band

    1) Considering that the last few LT releases had pretty good mastering with solid dynamics, I'm pretty hopeful for this one. LT1 did not sound good to me sound-wise.
    2) The Chet is indeed a good sound for Dave but it can really sound jarring on certain recordings. I'm hoping this time they nail the guitar sound on the recording

of course I should have checked there first.

giving this a listen now; my initial thought is if they get the mix/mastering right on the LT release, this has a chance to get into my top 5-10 releases.

It's funny you mention SPAC '01, because for me, that's a prime example of Seek Up losing some of its luster. Of course the wailing is great, we all know that. But the meat of the song itself is really lacking imo. The Taylor's subdued sound doesn't make the riff pop as much as the sharp, cutting sound of the Chet. Plus, around that time Dave changed the way he sang the verses: also more subdued, less vocal melody. That takes it down a peg in my eyes. For me, '95-'96 is the golden age of Seek Up.

It depends on my mood. The chet and 914 are signature sounds. Listen to a 03-04 tape for prime 914. 96-98 prime chet.

I enjoy the 714. I also enjoy 000 Rockbridge. His Brazilian jumbo sunburst is so Thuddy and dead sounding

    Totally agree

The opening to Red Rocks is the best way to start a live record. Also, my all time favorite version is from LT21 (SOMA - August '95). I've mentioned that particular Seek Up around here a few times as being one of the bands top performances, but I haven't seen anyone concur

2000/2001 Seek Up is still amazing. Even now it's one of their best songs. But nothing tops 95/96 Seek Up

Speaking of Seek Up, I can't wait to hear LT 57s opening Seek Up > Heartbeat debut. Just the core 5 in the Summer of '98. Hope this has a great mix.

It’s also worth noting that Martin would circle back to Summer 98 and wonder why this tour was “ignored” for so long. Hope he finds a copy at Goodwill in 2028.
