Wow- so this is pretty much their average set. More so the mode mathematically I guess. For many bands, their 4th and 6th most played songs might well be their 4th and 6th best song. For DMB- these are both bottom decile of the catalogue and that's being generous. Really defies understanding.

Wish there was new album news in this thread. New music is about all I'm interested in from DMB right now. Don't get me wrong, I love their old catalog all the way through the Lillywhite Sessions (and a handful of tunes since). However, I'm pretty burnt out on all of their old stuff right now. There are no setlists that excite me anymore, etc. I ruined that for myself by listening to the same old songs over and over until I no longer have a desire to hear any version of them for a good while!

I still enjoy taking my son to see them when they come to the Detroit area, but mostly for his sake. He's 15 and has a love for their music similar to what I used to have, so I like experiencing that with him. If not for him, I probably wouldn't see too many shows these days.

All I'm hoping for is something new from them that resonates. And things began sounding interesting in 2020. And I loved seeing Dave and Carter do those Warehouse Sessions from Haunted Hollow, and Dave seemed like he couldn't wait to share the "noises" they were making together during those sessions.

Then came Madman's Eyes, and that intrigued me, as well.

But here we are... Almost 2023. And everything regarding a new album has gone completely dark. This is extremely disappointing for someone like me that is desperate for something fresh from them. I just can't listen to Ants Marching or Grey Street, as good as they are, in heavy rotation anymore.

Goose just released another EP today called undecided. I love EPs and don’t get why DMB doesn’t just do EPs if they’re worried about their streak. Get that music out while It’s fresh!!

An EP with good quality, 5-6 minute, layered cuts of MME, WATM, TOT & SFTW would have been fire in spring 2022.

If they hate the studio as has been suggested, I feel a 4-5 song EP is much quicker of a process.

Switch up 10 of these and I'm happy. I know they're playing The Riff regularly right now, and I don't mind the new cover of Fool in the Rain particularly because they are killing it. Though it is getting too much play. Should be like 1 out of every 3 or 4 shows. Add Bartender, Recently, Typical, Sweet Up and Down, Break Free, and JTR back into the regular rotation.

Songs to leave Bayou, Can't Stop, Samurai Cop (mostly because it's played poorly live), That Girl is You, You and Me.

Sledgehammer should finally go away 14 years later. That should never really have become a regular song. Maybe a bust out or 2 a tour.

i really wish we had video footage of LIOG from 6/8/97. i would love to see how much fun, visually, the band had on that night with the epic bela fleck guesting on like 5 staright songs and compare that with the so much fun the band is having up there now. can't listen to it without making a goofy smile of joy. wheres that during come on come on and that girl is you?

While I wouldn't defend DMB's, well... everything for the last decade or so, you can't compare them to a band who is just getting off of the ground. Consider DMB in 94-98.

I'm kind of indifferent about Goose, like some of their stuff and saw them last week (collaborations with Trey were great), really like Orebolo a lot. Goose is 8 years into their career playing mid-sized venues and trying to work their way up the ladder within their genre, compare that to DMB's 8-year mark in 1998.

Yeah I wasn’t really intending to draw any comparisons between DMB and goose career trajectory and I doubt TerrapinMonkey was either with his comment.

I much prefer the way goose is releasing music in 2022 though. If you don’t have 12 good songs ready to go, you can still release what you have. We’re in the digital age. Release multiple versions of songs. Release it as singles - looking at you SFTW.

They are too traditional about the way they release music and it least to 5 years between releases - still my favorite band though and looking forward to the MSG broadcast tonight.

Was relatively recently introduced to Big Wreck. They're two-EPs into a batch of three that they will then release as full album for interested parties. This seems like one of best options for artists that are consistently writing and even recording new music. Release the stuff you've finished in smaller batches while finishing up/writing other/more tunes.

I think we all agree that the band could easily do a better job of releasing music without it devolving into any notion of folks feeling entitled about receiving said music or that it fit any of our notions of being "good" or up to the band's standard.

Goose’s timeline is probably much closer to DMB in 94-96ish. While they’re “8 years in”, the current iteration of the band is really only 4 years old and this iteration is very different in personnel and genre than the group that went under the “Goose” name prior to 2018.

I try not to do it too much, but having been at the Goose/TAB show last night and then checking the DMB set from MSG N1 when I got home, it was hard not to kind of just laugh at what current DMB is. Kinda just felt like a justification that I went to a show in Cuse over MSG. If that’s what DMB thinks is worth of the Garden for N1, sheesh.

This iteration of the band, which is truly THE band, is 4 years old.
