Meh this is just classic AM.org behavior. Combination of many different subjective opinions and everyone takes their own opinion like it is a fact and short term memory loss/indecision on what the actual consensus take is.

Would that it were only here and not how life has been around the world on almost every topic for at least the last two decades.

Opinion/belief are not fact/reality, but they also aren't always mutually exclusive. It's okay to only like the 1st versions you heard of songs, but that obviously doesn't make the current versions bad. As I've pointed out a ton of times, the 1st version of JTR I ever heard was tLWS and it remains my absolute favorite. However, when we finally got it at SPAC in 2018 & 2019 ('19 on the rail) I was ecstatic. It's still an excellent song regardless of the changes.

Clearly no one needs to agree.

I'm more eager for the new album...

Alright so as an attempt to get this thread back on track , here is what I am hoping for with a (not "the") new album. To me, this is, uh, somewhat realistic:

1) Madman's Eyes
2) The Only Thing
3) Walk Around The Moon
4) Break For It
5) Sugar Will
6) Sweet Up and Down

And then 5 new songs with solos (a hallmark of the band's best studio work).

I still want OatB AND a double album.

Give me ALL of the new, worst case I don't like all of it, but I'll still like the five I've heard to date.

Then give me some archives, including (but not limited to): DotHS, JTR, BF, ABC (which I know ain't happening), Bismarck, Kill the King, and more.

It would be so easy to make a double album a reality. I am, however, mostly interested in new songs.

I've always been a fan of Shotgun. The music is fantastic and yes, at first pass the lyrics seem like a mess, but considering the songs subject matter - it fits. Finding your love dead from self-harm would be overwhelming - the rambling, unfinished lyrics, the yelling (wailing) and the emotion perfectly fit the chaos of that experience. I'd love to hear more polished lyrics, especially on a studio cut, but I also like it just the way it is because it's raw.

I sure wouldn't complain with either of these, but what is the rationalization for SW and SUAD being realistic for the new album?

I get my hopes up every time getting that studio version of Crazy/ Easy or Loving Wings when there is talk of a new album. I know better to not do this... But mostly for whatever reason these live songs just get screwed over. I get that we have many versions of these songs via the Live Trax series and that's just grand. But, I think what I have been waiting for (maybe this is you too) is hoping to finally get studio versions of all these songs we've enjoyed over the years. Loving Wings, Crazy Easy, Sugar Will, Kill the King, Shotgun, ADSR, Break Free, Break For It, Bismarck, etc.) There is a large void missing in their discography with all of these live tunes omitted from the studio. These songs deserve a proper release. I'm hoping maybe this time things will be different. Mix in the new stuff and we got a pretty good batch of songs in both studio and live settings for a good while. Basically, all I want from my favorite band is to release studio versions of all the unreleased songs I've grown to love over the many years of being a fan. Whether that be in some combo with the new album or a straight up "B-Side/Unreleased" type album. Let these songs loose!

Oh true. I would've guessed those wouldn't get played too.

I'll still leave Shotgun off anyway because I think Dave doesn't like playing it. It was on the set the other night and cut, it's not like they were short on time or anything.

Same stuff over and over isn’t an indictment of a song if it’s thematically coherent (see Tomorrow Never Knows). SUAD falls into this category, at least in the LWS incarnation. The nature of man repeats itself, it’s cyclical. Nothing really, he lucked out a couple times that something that wasn’t what he said would happen, happened around the time his “info” was to come to light. I think he said “new album news on x day” and the week of that day we got LT59 announce or like a D&T show announce
