Album out of 10. I assume I am on the low side

I like it quite a bit, giving it an 8.

I really like Broken Things, Drunken Soldier, Rooftop, Snow Outside, and Belly Full.
Mercy, If Only, and The Riff are pretty decent.
I don't particularly care for Belly Belly Nice, Sweet, or Gaucho.

There's no songs on this album that I hate though, which is huge.

Busted Stuff has fantastic songs on it, but as an album it is pretty bad, certainly no better than a 6 in terms of production and flow. tLWS on the other hand is a solid 8, JTR, SU&D and Lillywhite make all the difference.

Too early to vote for me, I don't want to let the newness of it sway my opinion. Parts of Big Whiskey are still growing on me. I will say that it reminds a lot of Everyday.

I voted 8. Probably the 4th best ALBUM, not collection of songs. I wouldn't give any of the big 3 10s except BTCS and maybe UTTAD and possibly Crash. But other than that, no 10s for the big three, just 8s and 9s and 9.5s. That's all. I <3 AFTW.

I'd give it a 8.2-8.4

No songs that I can't stand. It's a bit mellow, but I think it fits the band at this stage in their career.

Don't know why people are giving Dave crap over the lyrics. He's always been hit and miss, and he's usually better on the darker songs, which there's not a lot on here.

FWIW, I think Dave's lyrics on this album are great. Gaucho's got a repetitive chorus, but so do many of his earlier songs. The verses and bridge of Gaucho are fantastic imo.

What kind of ranking would you give BW?

I agree that AFTW is on par with BS in terms of quality. Overall, BS outranks this album slightly, but there are individual tracks on this album that blow most of BS out of the water, surpass weaker big 3 tracks and compete with some middle of the pack songs from the first three albums. I don't think there is a single track on this album that can outrank the best of the band's core songs, but i'd take a song like Broken Things or Snow outside over at least half the tracks on Crash.

The more i think about it, the more i realize i don't really care to hear most of the songs on Crash at a show anymore. Say Bye, #41, Cry Freedom, and DIDO are the only songs from the album that I actually get excited to hear these days.

#41 recently returned to that list after the band finally started tightening it back up to the 10-12min range on the 2010 fall tour. Everday outro's and 20 minute Sojurns had started to get pretty stale over the last few years.

BS for me was a good album- but it just has a weird feeling to it due to the mixed feelings of the band at the time. I give this one an 8. So far I say its a really good album. We'll see how this ages.
