I won't disagree with you on that. I think in their own rights they are great at what they do. And no, Everyday isn't bad. But.... Well Lillywhite wins with this band.

No argument here that he was better for DMB than those guys.

I'd love for the U2 Production All Stars to do an album for DMB. (Eno, Lanois, Lillywhite, Flood).

I think the comment was referring to Ballard's skills rather than the direction he took DMB in. Everyday simply sounds well-done for what it is....maybe not the best sound for the band, but technically speaking I respect it. And those songs are well-written pop music, easily mistaken as being too simple or the band being lazy.

But I digress...it feels great to be able to enjoy the Dave Matthews BAND on a studio recording for what seems like forever!

i sort of agree with this:

1. BTCS
2. Crash
3. UTTAD (AFTW could move with UTTAD)
4. Busted Stuff
5. Stand Up
6. BWGGK
7. Everyday

despite a few listens, AFTW has that "dreamy" feel that makes UTTAD exceptional. it's not as in your face as Crash. UTTAD and AFTW are totally different though, because the band is in a different state mentally--and in just about every other aspect. but AFTW feels dreamy in the same way that UTTAD does because each record is almost overly optimistic. i don't know, i'm rambling and excited after hearing this.

and i don't really like BWGGK because the whole thing seems forced. SU is a record that sounds really good, but the musical ideas aren't quite there. BWGGK has the ideas, but the whole thing seems to be more about the story of the music than the physical product.

Alright after first listen my top 4:

1) Drunken Solider - This song just blows my mind wide open
2) The Riff - Just one of those DMB songs that gets stuck in your head.
3) Snow Outside - This just reminds me of something off of UTTAD
4) Broken Things - Could not have started the album better!


Very solid album! I'm already in love with the four above. I hope we get a Drunken Solider before this tour is over. Hopefully at the show I'm attending. I was hoping to get Last Stop but I'd take DS in a second over it now! My excitement level just went through the roof!!!

Loved If Only live... so much better studio. Really digging the faster paced groove.

Broken Things is phenomenal. Favorite after a few listens through. Dave really nails the vocals. Almost brings me to tears!!
Also exciting to see all of the positivity on the boards!!!

You're absolutely right!! Everything that makes the largest impact on me seems so subtle and it's only the combination of all the factors that create the atmosphere I'm loving so much.

When Boyd comes in at 2:10 on Broken Things, I honestly feel like I'm listening to DMB in 1992. It feels like Boyd during his best Blue Water solo...

So far, I feel like every song leaves me wanting more, which is a very good thing.

One thing I've noticed is that every list of favorite to least favorite people have posted has been very different. Some people love a song most, and others like it least. Big Whiskey came out, and it was obvious which songs were best and which were not so good.

I think when an album creates such a diversity of opinions, it means the quality of all the songs is pretty damn high.

For Lillywhite to return after over a decade, and surpass the collective expectations of this website, is absolutely incredible. I'm so happy to see this fanbase get what it wanted so badly after so long

the only dmb album that is virtually untouchable for me is BTCS....and probably Crash. In time I could like this record more than UTTAD. UTTAD was the album that got me into the band, but after years with it i really think its kind of weak from a studio stand point. I still love BOWA, ants, WWYS, and satellite from that record.....everything else i would muchhhhhh rather hear live. As an album I'll already take this over the dead corpse that is Busted Stuff. As someone said, its a great group of songs that I love but they sound lifeless on that record. I could legit see this as their 3rd best album.

Collection of songs? maybe 4th, probably 5th. which is not a diss at all. this is a fantastic album after 4 listens. "Snow Outside" is destined to become one of the all time fan favorites, no doubt in my mind. I know this is a great album because I can finally see a NUMBER of songs that will wind up in peoples top 20.

People on here are seriously saying that Belly Full is better than #40? Or even on par? It's a decent little song, but it doesn't compare.
