There are some ridiculous costs to attend three nights in most of these cities (the Gorge being the exception) or some inconveniences to stay outside of the city and trek in.
Still, I like the idea of the caravans. I wish they would be ballsier and go for a true festival setting though.

excellent point...being that I provided the phish example, let me explain in a little more detail. The fello that started the thread stated that the following:
"WHAT IS A MAIN POINT?
- A "PAYMENT PLAN" to purchase concert tickets, in the history of decent music, is unheard of."
I just wanted to site that another, i would suggest "respectable" band did provide a payment plan and that face value for tix were in the same ball park (actually almost identical), not considering indirect costs, which they presumably do not receive a kickback on.
Solid points though about the grilled cheese. I did luck out on a pretty cheap hotel for AC (split with 2 other people it comes out to ~120 for three nights), and also live in the nyc area, so the Governor's Island costs are just face value of tix. In the end, the two locations worked out perfectly for me...not to rub it in for those who face some logistical challenges.
