Re: DMB Vinyl Releases

Mine has shipped from Looney Tunes in West Babylon today. Crazy thing was it was sold out for the first week when available and then I kept checking weeks later and I scored a preorder for about $90 after shipping which was pretty sweet. Then for the hell of it I checked some weeks after that and you could still order more. Guessing some people cancelled their orders for some reason. Should get it by Monday or Tuesday. Don't mean to ask a random question that should be posted somewhere else. Can anyone suggest a quality turn table setup/amplifier/speaker setup that won't break the bank? I have a ton of vinyl that I want to enjoy with a good setup. TIA if anyone has the time to point me in the right direction.

My pre-order got cancelled. Probably just wait for the standard black release unless anyone knows of a place selling them online.

That's great, mine is shipped too.

These questions are always welcome What is your price point and initial vision? I don't want to suggest something absurd or also suggest something that is less than what you might be ready for. If you don't want to publicly get into the details always feel free to PM as well.

Typically the LT vinyl releases have come out on standard black vinyl a few weeks after the colored variant is released.

I'm assuming in a week or two we'll get that email.

I would suggest heading to the vinyl thread on NDMBC. You will find some great advice there.

I use a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC turntable ($400), Pro-Ject Phono Box DC preamp ($100), Audio Engine A5+ powered speakers ($400), Audio Engine S8 powered subwoofer ($350). I also have the Audio Engine D1 DAC ($170) for hooking up to the computer but you don't need that for playing vinyl. I absolutely love the setup!

This is perfect for the casual setup with very high quality sound.

    Audio Technica LPW40WN - amazon $299
Klipsch 51PM powered bookshelf speakers - amazon $369
    Or
Edifier R1280T - amazon $99 - can't speak to the quality but people really talk these up (5 stars 5200 reviews)

This is really all you would need. There is a preamp on board for the turntable and both of these sets of speakers have phono inputs. Let us know if you have questions..

Check out U-Turn turntables. I have one and it’s great. You can get them with or without a pre-amp and they have a range of price options.

    For sure!

Front door is locked, max capacity was 20 people. Doyle, one of the owners, was manning the door and keeping count on people in the store.

Mask on, must stop at their hand sanitizers station as soon as you walk in.

Definitely felt busy with 20 people in there but everyone’s comfort level is different these days.

Good to know. Glad to hear that it's a good setup and functioning. Looking forward to visiting the store. It's been a long time since I've visited Grimey's.

I'm pretty surprised by this seemingly surprise announcement for LT6 and LT7. My vinyl spending has been a bit out of control, so this won't help my wallet. Do we know any background on why they skipped forward to LT35 and then came back to 6 and 7? Maybe they are realizing it's much more profitable to release LT on Vinyl than the "regular" CD and Digital methods.

I was wondering why they went out of order too.

My two thoughts are: 1) RSD releases. These were probably intended to RSDBF releases, with LT 35 being RSD. Because of the disruption LT got moved to indie exclusive and 6 & 7 may have run into production issues.

    2) They're trying to drum up money since they couldn't tour this year. Probably have a decent sized staff they're trying to keep on payroll. LT 35 was probably a very popular selling release so they put it out there hoping to make a splash.

How are the Crash anniversary and the newest RTT vinyls?

Crash is probably the best sounding DMB vinyl release there is. All analog mastered by Chris Bellman - it's phenomenal and damn-near audiophile quality.

RTT is still the same cut, just repressed on 150g vinyl and in a single jacket pocket rather than a gatefold. It sounds good - on par with UTTAD as far as studio albums go.

Thanks for the details. I was hesitant (by minutes) w/ pressing the buy button via the WH store and then Crash was gone again. Found it elsewhere, but would have preferred to buy directly from the band or a local shop.

If you didn't snag Crash yet, and still want to support a local shop, Plaid Room Records has a few copies for $30: https://www.plaidroomrecords.com/pro...dcc1ee0f&_ss=r

They're an indie store in OH.

Crazy that there's copies of these floating around. I noticed the copy I have is going for ~$150 on Discogs. Granted, it's the splatter version, but I thought the whole album was pretty well sold out at this point.
