Re: Rank the studio versions of the songs on "Come Tomorrow"

After 5-6 listens all the way through I’m going to rank them based on what songs I’ve gone back to the most. This isn’t necessarily a reflection of the quality of the studio recording but the song itself.

    Idea of You
    Come On Come On
    Black and Blue Bird
    Do You Remember
    Again and Again
That Girl Is You (live version is better)
    Bkdkdkdd
    Samurai Cop
    Can’t Stop
    She
    Virginia in the Rain
    Come Tomorrow
    Here On Out
    When I’m Weary

I really like Idea of You as well, I just cannot get used to the newer lyrics because I listened to it like 7 million times on Live Trax 6 from Fenway Park over the years...

The first 10 are all great and virtually tied - had to rank based on song preference and certain studio decisions.

I'll keep it short and simple. I kinda LOVE this album. The only track I'm not 100% on board with is "Come Tomorrow" but... but... even that one, which falls in same the vein of message-y songs like "Dive In", "Gaucho" and "Mercy", is vastly more listenable than those earlier ones.

Really the only song I don't like here is Come Tomorrow. Just can't get into that one. I wish they would have closed the album stronger.

Re: Rank the studio versions of the songs on "Come Tomorrow"

Taking a swing at this after probably 15 - 20 runs through the album. Overall, I'd say I like this better than AFTW and BW.

These top four I think are amazing songs. On par with the best of what we can expect from this version of DMB. Meaning for me, they're right there with Snow Outside and Lying in the Hands of God both in terms of quality and listenability.

    1. Virginia in the Rain - First because every member of the band has it's moment.
    2. Here On Out - My favorite on the whole album, but not a band tune so I'm basically calling this 1B because of that.
    3. Again and Again - Love it, love it live, love it here. A touch cheesy maybe?
    4. Black and Bluebird - I think this is a major highlight of the album. Maybe the one song I'd play for someone who hasn't heard DMB before. I love that they trimmed it down (and I didn't think I would).
    ___________________

This next session is just a half step down for a few different reasons. I really like Idea of You, I just have never LOVED the song. Chorus is great, versus though... theres a reason they keep changing and it's because Dave has never gotten it quite right. Still hasn't. DYR just feels like a B-side production. I like the song, but the straight forward beat and the "woos" just don't feel like a 1st class finished product. Samurai Cop is nice, but sometimes drones on for me... I like it, but if I'm going to listen to the album twice in a row, I might skip it the second time because it gets boring after you hear it once. But I like it when it seems fresh, if that makes sense?

    5. Idea of You
    6. Do You Remember
    7. Samurai Cop
    ___________________

These are songs that I love when I'm in the mood for them, and are total skips when I'm not.

    8. That Girl Is You
    9. Can't Stop
    ___________________

These two... They're both "nice". They're both done well. To me... they're both bland. I enjoy listening to them. But there doesn't seem to be anything unique about them that would make me intentionally go back to them. Also, the instrumentation bothers me on COCO. It feels like strings/synth. Which is another way of me saying it feels computerized and fake.

    10. When I'm Weary
    11. Come On Come On
    ___________________

I just can't get on board with either of these two. I think they're both misfires.

    12. She
    13. Come Tomorrow

This one is great, but it's a commercial, it shouldn't be a track. If it was tacked on the end of another track, it wouldn't get rated, so that's how I'm going to treat it.

Re: Rank the studio versions of the songs on "Come Tomorrow"

Wanted to give the album a few different listens in a few different contexts before I did this. In the car, at home drinking a bottle of wine playing along on my bass, headphones in while I walk the dog, etc. Here goes

Probably will be an all time favorite DMB song for me
    1. Virginia in the Rain

    Solid songs
    2. Come On, Come On
    3. Again and Again
    4. Idea of You
    X. Bkdkdkdd (not a real song, so not ranking. But this is one of the coolest 27 seconds of the album)

Mediocre (Songs I don’t hate, but they generally missed the mark, have something missing, or just have a few nice elements but ultimately fall short)
    5. Samurai Cop (studio missed the mark slightly which dropped it in here, but the live version still has a lot of power for me)
    6. She
    7. Black and Blue Bird (I really, really like Dave’s guitar lick on this song. His vocals/lyrics are way too busy and all over the place though for the most part)
    8. Come Tomorrow

    Throw it in the trashcan
    9. Here On Out
    10. Do You Remember
    11. That Girl Is You
    12. Can’t Stop
    13. When I'm Weary

Re: Rank the studio versions of the songs on "Come Tomorrow"

After spending a lot of quality time with the new album, I wanted to re-evaluate what I originally listed

    NEW THOUGHTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

ADDING TO MY BEST OF MIX IMMEDIATELY

    Samurai Cop

    Come on, Come On

    That Girl Is You

    SOLID SONGS

Do You Remember - I think after a few more listens and/or seeing it live (if I am fortunate enough) this song may move up the list

    Virginia In The Rain

    Come Tomorrow

    Again and Again

    THESE ARE OKAY

Can't Stop - after quite a few more listens, the studio version isn't as awesome as I first thought. Still a decent song, but no longer in my favorites

    She

Black and Blue Bird - after a few more listens I understand why I didn't really like it live.

    REALLY DON'T LIKE THESE

    bkdkdkdd
    Idea of You

    When I'm Weary

    Here On Out

I like She a lot. Can't imagine myself listening to others much after this summer.

If you're listening to the new album and trying to get excited about an upcoming show a little trick I found is to say "Alexa, play Listener Supported."

Guys nothing is complete shit on this album. Sure you don't think it sounds like dmb of old or it's too pop. Whatever, that' fine. But complete shit? That's a head scratcher...

If you think Come Tomorrow is a good song then god bless ya, I guess. Cringe-worthy IMO.
