Re: What would you want in the 20th Anniv. package of BTCS?

By every single account I’ve heard, the anniversary rerelease of Crash sounds significantly better than anything we’ve had of the album up until now. I don’t know how that can be construed as a massive blunder.

I think re-releases or anniversary releases or whatever PR jargon we're using to describe it often need some sort of bonus tracks or rare stuff as incentive to buy it.

Otherwise, I totally understand where some people are coming about the Crash release if they aren't vinyl lovers — it's not a remaster/remix and there's no bonus stuff? That's basically just asking me to buy a second copy of something I already own.

Re: What would you want in the 20th Anniv. package of BTCS?

People who own pricey tables and equipment have been pining for DMB to release more of their albums earlier than on BTCS for about a decade. People who don’t partake in vinyl were never a part of that equation and were content with the CD/44.1 kHz download. The people who were ok with the CDs are the ones whining about no deluxe box set.

Re: What would you want in the 20th Anniv. package of BTCS?

If the BTCS vinyl remaster doesn't contain any extra tracks, whether they be download or otherwise, I believe they are holding all the alternate tracks, b-sides or "rare stuff" for a box set later. Financially speaking, this is the way to go for management.

I will be buying the BTCS vinyl anyway because I am a vinyl junkie and this album will sound sick on my rig.

It does seem like a missed opportunity, unless they're planning some sort of rarities box set some day.

I was thinking maybe they'll do some sort of "live box" some day, but DMB Live 25 feels like their version of that.

I can see it both ways. People want a bang for their buck in buying BTCS or anything else, I get that. I believe I am getting a bang for my buck when getting a AAA remaster of BTCS. But again, this only caters to the vinyl crowd.

I'd almost rather have a whole box set at once, instead of a steady drip of stuff over a few years. I've waited this long. Give me the whole enchilada.

That's why I think what I posted a few pages back would cover the most demand and make everyone happy. The key is ramping up and options:

Option 1 - Before these Crowded Streets $35: New remaster from the original analog tapes, cut from tape, by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Pressed onto 2 LPs at Pallas. Includeds digital download card of the new remaster.

Option 2 - 'After' these Crowded Streets $50: Includes Option 1 & a 2 CD set featuring the best live performances of each of the studio tracks on the first disc and studio demos/alternative mixes/outtakes on the second disc. Includes MacHead, #40, an alternate take of Pig, among others.

Option 3 - 'Surrounded by' these Crowded Streets $40: 2 disc Blu-ray set featuring a newly mastered and re-imagined album: remastered from the original master tapes presented in high resolution 24/96 5.1 multi-channel and 24/96 2.0 stereo PCM. Disc 1 contains the album as described in the previous sentence, each music video presented in high definition with newly remastered audio in high resolution 24/96 5.1 multi-channel and 24/96 2.0 stereo PCM, and relevant interviews and studio insights presented at the highest quality allowed from the source. Disc 2 is the band's performance from 11.21.1998 at The Crown in Cincinnati, OH.

Option 4 - 'Immersed in' these Crowded Streets $200: Immersion box set containing Option 2 (2LP + 2CD bonus material) and Option 3. Box set includes a 24-page lyric book + photos in a hard-cover case, a hi-resolution poster of the album's signature cover, a replica of the ticket for the 11.21.98, and the new Live Trax: 4.18.1998 - release day show at Roanoke. Each box set is foil stamped and numbered, limited to 2,500.

Hope someone can get to the bottom of this at management, otherwise we'll all have to go straight to Dave to get some answers.

    Hilly, this was awesome.

I dont think dave ever said early next year...? or maybe Im wrong

I want that 4th option, dammit! And I assume this naming convention might be sly enough to work!

Damn, that's very imaginative and I like where your head is at. I would like to order the #4. Super Size Me. Although, it will probably be the #1 without the download card, which might now be considered the #0 from the value menu.

    Care to weigh in Doby?

It would be all of my hopes and dreams come to life if that sort of offering ever materialized.

Knowing our luck, though, the anti-vinyl sentiment after Crash and DMB Live 25 will have changed management's mind and we'll get a crappy Ted Jensen digital remaster that is somehow less dynamic than the original '98 CD.

Then, by time we finally get the vinyl hype back again, it'll be Big Whiskey getting an immersion set that no one wants or needs.

A BTCS package of some sorts is a way for management to get me to shell out money for something special. I don’t see myself doing it for any other album or release going forward.

That would be spectacular if that happened.

Hopefully, they haven't ruined it for the rest of us. If only they had their precious downloads. I may get some backlash for saying that, but I don't care because it is true. They couldn't leave well enough alone.

Let's hope there will be something special, even if that only means a continual appreciation and output for properly mastered vinyl.

Or just give them their downloads and we're all happy.

audio quality was upgraded a bit. thats only a big deal to sound and or vinyl geeks. thats a minority.

everyone loved crash before this re release, so i mean how goodies werent added on was a missed opportunity. thus, a blunder.

Not as big a blunder as those awful Beatles in Mono vinyl boxes from a few years back, can’t believe they didn’t contain any goodies.

Hope someone can get to the bottom of this at management, otherwise we'll all have to go straight to Dave to get some answers.

When does the deluxe package for "The Definitive Trollings and Shit Posts by Hilly" come out?..definitely don't wanna miss that pre-sale

LOL @ thinking albums in 2017 need some huge multi-month rollout.

    Need it? No
Would DMB management do it if they absolutely knew there was an album coming in a few months? Absolutely

I assume he's talking about Live at Luther for black friday. He hinted in the vinyl thread that we're in for a treat and perhaps a surprise. I'm definitely stoked for that release!

So everyone agrees: No quality vinyl of material that's already been released. Just downloads.

2018 is going to be the year for the fans!

Hey Hilly, when you get up for your next coffee break, tell Cap$haw that there's a lot of buzz on Ants about wanting cassette and 8-track releases.
