DC is in the Indy burbs. Its a bit out of the way so if you are a camper you can be totally surrounded by every aspect of concert camping with the added bonus of being 5 minutes from any supplies you might need and being right next to the venue. If you want the city experience you can do that too and still easily get to the venue. Its the best of both worlds. I've done both. I camped and never left the grounds in 2015 and in 2018 brought my fiance and we did the city experience. Both were phenomenal.

The first time I ever went to Deer Creek I came from Ohio, and google maps routed me a weird way that actually was quite helpful for avoiding traffic. But I was beginning to wonder where I was. It was just corn field, corn field, corn field, soybean field, corn field, and then BAMMM there's the entrance to Deer Creek. To come from that way, it felt like Deer Creek was literally out in the middle of nowhere. Then when we left I realized just how close to civilization it is.

Still hoping to go back next summer.

Gorge, SPAC, Alpine?

I've done 2 of those and prefer DC to Alpine by a wide margin. Its not close for me.

Went to Deer Creek for the shows in 2002. Was a blast. Waiting on the gates to open, people were parked on the shoulder of the road leading to the parking lot gate. As folks walked into the cornfield to pee, they were getting turned around and lost. Folks were hollering for somebody to come get them. Got pretty funny.

Alpine > Gorge when it comes to the show itself.
Gorge > Alpine when it comes to atmosphere and overall experience.

Haven’t been to SPAC and always wanted to go but when I really think about it after all these years, I don’t find any particular versions of songs from SPAC to stand out over Alpine, Deer Creek and Gorge. So, for me, it’s possibly overrated?

Also, from what I’ve seen on YouTube and heard on the boards, the crowd at SPAC is the worst out of the big 4.

Very interested in Deer Creek. DC feels like more of an Alpine type crowd whereas SPAC is sort of like going to Camden or something.

Edit: to whoever said no shows in 2021 - probably true but it’s time to give us refunds if that’s the case.

SPAC crowds are great if you get under the roof!

There are absolutely some standouts from that venue...The Stone in 09, Seek Up in 01

I went to SPAC once, probably wont go back. I don't know if we just got stuck in a bad row/section but the people around us sucked. The row in front of us, there were 5 college aged kids that were standing in the area in front of 3 seats, drinking obnoxiously, not paying attention to the show---they were actually watching (or trying to) the Celtics in the playoffs on an ipad and getting pissed that they were losing. I thought security did a piss poor job managing that, considering how close to the aisle it was. Show was decent, nothing to make me travel there or over pay for tickets again.

This was 2012 Night 2. We were in the balcony, towards Boyd/Tim's side of the stage. It was bad. I have a fairly high boiling point when it comes to bullshit and am in general, pretty patient with things, but these guys were bad.


I very much want to see a show at The Gorge, just a fairly tough sell to the wife because of the cost and dealing with childcare, etc. I am the DMB fan so it would very much be my thing, so we'd have to find other things on the trip for her as well (which I know wouldn't be tough to do).

My only issue with Deer Creek is that it's always roughly 115 degrees at showtime which happens to be on the summer solstice so the sun doesn't dip behind the roof until about 1145pm.

I'm sure you've had some scorchers in Texas, but the heat is just different in rural Indiana.

I went once too and I think that the woman next to me was wearing a diaper or something.. It smelled like burnt dog food.. She didn't care though..

You will love it. Been to Alpine and the Gorge. Sure DC is my home venue but it has just a different vibe. Its just flat out fun to be in that crowd.
