    Good find, thanks for sharing.

"Away From the World" ... a Dave solo record backed by Dave Matthews Band. Interesting way to think of it.

Makes me eager for another go with Lillywhite where the entire band gets to write songs from scratch together. Or of course, a record of unreleased tunes the band already has.

“(Matthews) went off and wrote all of the songs to ‘Away From The World,' which is not necessarily the way this band always is making music,” Lessard says. “I feel like ‘Away From The World' kind of was ... the Dave Matthews Band backing Dave's solo record"

When does Stefan not come off like a whiny bitch? We get it, you helped write Dreaming Tree and Last Stop...let's not forget you gave us Hunger For The Great Light. Dave is the musical creator...it's HIS band. You're welcome for your fame, be happy you're still going strong!

Then do something about it. Write some songs, bring them up, get some music to them and play them. Easy.

I like how everyone is ignoring the last part of that quote. "It came from him. It was very personal. And that's a great moment.”

Not just this interview.....but always. "We play what Dave wants...period"..."I have no idea what to practice, Dave doens't tell us"....."I thought we were taking 2011 off from touring...wish I had a gig" (in regards to D&T shows). It seems he's always whining. Yes, he said the end part...probably to make it politically correct. But come on, it's Stefan, he's always a downer about things so you know he "HAD" to say it.

It's nice to see they're not treating this as an album tour and they're focusing on bringing older songs back.

Nice to hear that they are actually consciously writing the sets with the mindset of playing older songs. It's obvious with all the setlist media hype on their facebook and twitter accounts that they want people to notice that they are playing the old stuff. I'm curious if this is a response to lower crowd numbers or if they have finally realized what their best music is pre-2005.

I actually wouldn't be opposed to a couple more AFTW tunes in the sets. But Stefan's comments explain why there haven't been.

Exactly my point. Glad you see what I'm saying....sometimes it doesn't make sense to post on these boards anymore. I need to remember that more often

LOVE this. Sucks because I thought it'd be BW V2 for the sets in regards to AFTW with promotion and such. I envisioned a lot of sets mirroring last fall (which sucked), so I only scheduled 1 or 2 shows.

Interesting article..never realized that Dave did all of the songwriting for AFTW.

I wonder how sincere Stefan was when he said it was a "great moment"..judging by some things he has said in the past idk if he'd really feel that way, but then again who knows? It was a good album.

You must have missed this part...

“I feel like ‘Away From The World' kind of was ... the Dave Matthews Band backing Dave's solo record. It came from him. It was very personal. And that's a great moment.”

Dave was also the weakest part of Away from the World, I actually hope the band is more involved in the construction process next time. I enjoyed his guitar playing, but melodically and at times lyrically, Dave just flat out didn't bring it.

That being said, I still thoroughly enjoy AFTW.

No I appreciate him saying this...but it was forced, as discussed. He did not genuinely mean that. He had to be politically correct in putting that part in there. He's always so whiny, aside from this, as I also said above. IN addition, he's always airing out his shit on Twitter/FB, then deleting them because one of his managers or close acquaintence probably advises him to.

You must not be a musician or songwriter if you think Dave was the weakest on the album. He constructed the songs from scratch which takes A LOT more than any other band member's contribution. And stand up and big whiskey were written more by the band as a unit and AFTW is much better.

First, you don't have to be a musician or songwriter to come to a conclusion regarding a piece of music. That's just the perspective of a snob. Second, just because DM had more involvement doesn't disprove the theory that his input is still the weakest link. Third, your last sentence is just an opinion, not a matter of fact and therefore does not add anything to the debate at hand.

Well thank you for returning my snobby argument with an even snobbier one. I know what facts and opinions are. But it is a fact that someone who has never tried to write a song cannot fully appreciate what it takes to write a fully cohesive melody and guitar parts to accompany it. Whereas for Stefan and Carter to try to compliment what Dave already handed to them doesn't take nearly as much creativity. In other words there is a lot more responsibility on Dave when it comes to our judgment of DMB songs

He actually did write those songs (sans lyrics). And Rapunzel. And #41. And others that are complete fan favorites. I don't see him coming off as a "whiny bitch" at all. I think he just likes to make it clear that this is a Band. Just because the name is Dave Matthews Band doesn't mean that it's Dave Matthews doing all of the work.

Interesting he says they are between albums, when AFTW was just released after the summer tour last year.

He was probably pointing to the fact the Fall tour was an album tour, and this is not an album tour. I could be wrong, though.
