fuck the Coyotes, they're not that damn good. Mike Smith is not that damn good. In 5 games, the Preds played 1 that was worth a shit. otherwise, it was sloppy puck play and incredibly weak defense. they weren't getting back in time nor did they take any good shots. i still can't believe just how poorly this series went. did not look like a trotz team. damn shame too, cause they had the talent to win the cup.

now there's no telling what this team will look like next year. hopefully we can do something to keep suter and webber. if not, we're in trouble.

So the Kings are going to become the first team (of any rank) to knock off the #1, #2 and #3 seeds. Impressive!

Actually the Flames did it in 04. Beat the #3 Canucks in round 1. #1 Detroit in round 2 and #2 Sharks in round 3.

So are the Preds able to hold the team together? They got no closer to the 3rd round than last year. Reports from a while ago had Radulov will be gone. Andrei Kostitsyn I'm sure is gone and probably to Russia would be my guess. According to capgeek they only have 12 players signed and are at $32mil. Gonna be an interesting offseason for them

I know they are the first 8th seed to beat a 1 and 2 and I would have thought you were right but then I was thinking about all the lower seeds that (beat Detroit) and went to the Finals a few years back and the Flames popped into my head. Knew they beat #3 in round 1 and #1 in round 2. Had to look up to see where SJ finished.

To be fair, he did make the decision to put team discipline over putting the best product on the ice for two games. Not sayin, just sayin...

Yeah, definitely the first #8 seed, not of any rank though.

Yeah, i don't think its the reason they lost the series, but it could have thrown things off for the last two games.

Watching the World Championships yesterday got me thinking about how the US Olympic team will look in 2014. I think they'll be sending a really strong team. With the American talent in the league right now it'll be a shame if they don't bring home a medal.

    Nope. Try again.

    Playoffs:

    GAA:

    Quick > Smith

    SV%:

    Quick > Smith

    Opponents defeated:

    Quick 1 + 2 seeds > Smith 6 + 3 seeds

    Quick >>> Smith

Absolutely. They should only be better than they were in 2010. Most of the forwards are probably going to return with more experience (plus some guys like TJ Oshie and Stepan, etc), and the blue line is going to get a major overhaul most likely.

    Should be interesting for sure.

All of this of course is assuming the NHL gives the go-ahead for their players to participate....

The 2010 USA team was so young. So many guys on that team are so much better than they were in 2010. Plus Rafalski won't be on the team so that will be awesome. I hated that guy so much

Rafi had a damn good Olympics in 2010 man. I don't care how much you hated him he had 8 points in 6 games.

    Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Fun game: Olympics start this year. I, of COURSE, have been named GM of Team USA. Here's my team (23 players):

    David Backes
    Brian Boyle
    Dustin Brown
    Ryan Callahan
    Patrick Kane
    Ryan Kesler
    David Legwand
    TJ Oshie
    Zach Parise
    Joe Pavelski
    Bobby Ryan
    Paul Stastny
    Derek Stepan

    Justin Faulk
    Erik Johnson
    Jack Johnson
    Brooks Orpik
    Kevin Shattenkirk
    Ryan Suter
    Keith Yandle

    Ryan Miller
    Jonathan Quick
    Cory Schneider

I think this would be a really well-rounded team. Coach Brooks and this year's Penguins taught us that all-star teams don't always go all the way. Hence, I added some really solid positional players who can still contribute offensively in Boyle and Legwand. The rest of the forward group has a real solid mixture of size, skill, speed, and two-way ability.

My D corps is out-of-this world good. I had a really tough time cutting my last guy (Rob Scuderi), but I think this is the best mixture of guys that would play well together and can contribute at both ends. Counting on Faulk and Shattenkirk to continue their rapid growth in the NHL.

And you can't argue with that goaltending crew. Quick is looking to supplant Miller as the starter, with the very capable Schneider holding down the #3 spot.

EDIT: Ryan Suter would hold the captaincy. And my heart.

Interesting keeping Brooks Orpik in there.

Him going to the Red Wings would really mess up my Hate The Red Wings mentality.
