It floods the pressing plants with a lot of junk that gets priority. The day was initially meant to support local record stores, but more than ever it's just a cash grab for the major labels. Many stores have to take on debt just to buy-in for the releases; which they don't know what their allotment will be until the order arrives. And when they get stuck holding many copies of lame releases and get screwed out of getting the hot ticket ones, it becomes a dicey situation.

From a collectors perspective, it drives up price on otherwise low-value records that are usually not well mastered or pressed; and it often results in the good stuff ending up in the hands of flippers.


I liked the idea of it, but execution has never been perfect and it seems to get worse each year.

Just a reminder guys - as we mentioned last year, please still try and go to your local record store anyway. Don't just add your name to the list to avoid having to get out on Black Friday. Not saying everyone will do that, but if you're going on the list, make sure you're still at least going to your local record store and actually trying to get the release.

Generally, RSD events are 1 per person. As much as people think this is a cash grab for labels, people buying more than one of each are often selling these on eBay. The stores I frequent stress this to all customers.

Please support your local record store.

Since there's only 1,000, I imagine some of us will be ending up buying on eBay. I imagine I'll be having to pay $200 for each of these releases. With only 1000 out there I doubt that many extras will be able to be purchased.

Very good point and hopefully everyone understands to do this. Being that this release is far more limited than the past few have been, if you don't go out and grab one for yourself, there's still pretty good odds that you won't be able to find another Ant who could get multiple copies.

For prior releases when there were 2-5k copies, there have still be entire states that have gotten zero copies. It's the unfortunate side of RSD. And even worse, many copies are likely to land on eBay for absurd prices.

That all said, it is still a good idea to get on the list, and there are many Ants who have in the past secured extra copies for others on the list. So everyone do your part to try to help yourself and then others.

This will be the first year I'll be attempting RSD Black Friday. I live around many small to medium sized record stores here in Minneapolis. Even if you aren't able to obtain these, as a friendly reminder The Warehouse will probably release these shortly after. I'm sure you all know thats been the trend over the years.

These were not listed as RSD-First releases, which means they probably won't be released by the Warehouse after RSDBF.

The ones that got a WH release were listed as RSD-First release.
