A Simple Favor was completely ridiculous and wholly entertaining. I love that it knew it was completely over the top.

Welcome to Marwen reviews being held back and it was shut out of the Globe nominations. Not a good sign.

Even considering how loose the HFPA is with nominations, I don't think anyone ever considered it a serious awards contender.

Was listening to We Hate Movies episode of Back to the Future (this is We Love Movies month) and they spent the first segment of the podcast shitting all over Marwen. Apparently it's really, really bad.

Watched all of the lost Louis CK movie "I Love You, Daddy" on youtube last night.

Was not what I expected at all, fairly serious movie top to bottom, few laughs but its definitely classic Louie style. Its absolutely got some cringey stuff in there knowing what he did, but I didnt hate it top to bottom. Definitely was weird that it was shot in B&W.

I watched the documentary (Marwencol) a few weeks ago, and while I didn't particularly like it, the trailers for the Hollywood version of the story only convince me that they've completely bastardized it.

I'm actually the one who more often than not scoffs at people who so readily 'put down' - for lack of a better term - a movie for just seeming like it was produced to hopefully win Oscars, I usually lean toward just defending letting a movie be and exist (which actually kinda surprises me now I think about it, given how pessimistic and jaded I am just in general in life ) but I've VERY much gotten that type of feeling from this movie. Especially the way they've cut the trailers, it's like it's got a neon sign "this is important and meaningful!!"
A shame, too, cause it looks like there was a shit ton of effort put into the VFX.

I just wish Zemeckis would focus on doing 100% live action content because when he does he knocks it out of the park. I'm a huge fan of his.

The preview is seriously laughable. Like I'm not sure who it's intended for. Serious side-eye between my wife and I when that came on screen the last movie we saw.

Yeah I truly cant even wrap my head around what Marwen is trying to be. Im someone who would normally watch anything with Carrell in it and have (see: seeking a friend for the end of the world), but this I truly have no interest in. It almost come off like it would be unsettling and confusing watching it.

the curious thing now I think about it, and when they're both movies starring Steve Carell, look at the difference between the expectations/reception of this "Welcome To Marwen" thing and "Beautiful Boy". Both based on true stories, both have at the heart of their stories (well I haven't actually seen either movie yet) a character trying to overcome a massive adversity in arguably almost life or death situations, and one feels like you're being totally manipulated, and the other (at least word I've heard so far) seems sincere and authentic to the bone. Both "important", but only one seems to make your eyes roll thinking that.

The thing about Marwen is that they're glossing over some major plot details that would alter the target demographic pretty dramatically. There are some vague references in certain trailers, but at this point they need to be a little more explicit if they want ANYONE to watch it.

it comes off partially like a movie an adult could go see with their kids and partially like a dark mental health movie.

Apart from there being fantasy elements involving action figures, I definitely wouldn't think of it as being kid friendly.

For anyone who's seen the documentary, I don't see how you can come away from of it without thinking that Mark Hogancamp is a bit of a creep. He certainly didn't deserve to be beat within an inch of his life, but there's quite a bit false advertising in the trailers that won't sit well with some viewers.

Didnt mean kids as in young children, more like a 10-13 year old.

I know nothing about the story prior, just going off of the trailers ive seen. Thats exactly why I find it misleading, they created major celebs into cgi type characters and play this whimsical music, making the world he created seem kind of light hearted. If you dont dig into it enough before going to see it I feel like youre gonna be in for some dark stuff you werent anticipating.

I know nothing about the story prior, just going off of the trailers ive seen. Thats exactly why I find it misleading, they created major celebs into cgi type characters and play this whimsical music, making the world he created seem kind of light hearted. If you dont dig into it enough before going to see it I feel like youre gonna be in for some dark stuff you werent anticipating.
yup until you posted this I assumed it was about some WW2 vet that got beat up because he was a vet comes out of a coma and builds this cool town he was in during the war lol

Word, just looked this up too and agree to an extent that it's kind of misleading.
