The War on Drugs (Band)

Love this band. Going to see them at Radio City in October. Anyone else dig these guys? I know their last album has gotten them a lot of press, but almost all of their stuff is solid.

They're alright. I enjoy their newest album for the most part but he sounds so much like Bob Dylan that it's kinda distracting at times.

Red Eyes is one of my favorite songs of the past few years. That said I'm not all that familiar with their earlier work, even though I love Kurt Vile. Failure on my part.

I always got a Tom Petty vibe, which kinda turned me off initially, but I've really come around to these guys as of late.

fillmore website says 8 show so I'm gonna go with that. it does not have info on opener. I'd assume there is one, but wouldn't be sure on timing

I just saw them in Philly on 9/21. The show does start at 8 and there was an opener. WOD came on at around 9.

The show was amazing btw, they sound better than ever.

Heard about them here and gave a listen. Not bad, enjoyed the melodies of the songs, but I didn't fall in love.

Saw them at Central Park Summer Stage last week. They played primarily the entire new album (minus Thinking of a Place) and a few tunes from their previous albums. They f'in rock "Under the Pressure." It's incredible.

awesome show last night. Jordan was right, they absolutely killed Under The Pressure, my goodness. Other highlights for me were Nothing To Find, Eyes To The Wind, and An Ocean Between The Waves. Whole show was rockin though. What'd you think Bridge?

had a great time. an ocean between the waves was probably my favorite part as well. under the pressure's studio version is so ingrained in my head that it's hard to replicate but they really crank it up

I had a random thought after the show about the band, and how some have crowned them as the next great American rock band, that they should be this huge act, and I don't necessarily disagree with that but I will say this - as much as I love Adam as a vocalist, their songs can sometimes be a bit difficult to sing along to, especially live. I wonder if that has any impact on how people feel about them.

I can see that. When you see him perform live his vocals seem "abbreviated" and a little "fast." Which make it difficult to sing along to.

that's a good point. I'd also think that to me, and probably others, the biggest / favorite moments in his songs are melodies, breakdowns, bridges, etc., not necessarily hard-hitting lyrical punches

Adam went on IG live last night and played some rough mixes from the new album, which he says is 75-80% done. The songs sound so fucking good:
