Re: **Official Running Thread**

Excited for race season to get started back up here in WA. Just signed the fam up for our first 5k of the year in 3 weeks. Wife has a half in April, hoping to get in a full this year. I've got a 50 miler in July, going to keep telling myself that skinning up the hill on my splitboard is sufficient training for that. Hopefully can run Bloomsday (12k) with my oldest daughter this May.

Haven't followed any plans in a few years now, mostly just space out something of substance (SOS) every couple of days with a lot of easy running between. I have checked out plans like Hal Higdon and Jack Daniels from time to time if I'm not sure how to structure something in training. Is anyone following Ryan Hall on the World Marathon Challenge this week? 7 marathons, in 7 consecutive days, in 7 continents, and his longest training run was 8 miles leading up to it. He has run in Antarctica, Chile, and Miami so far and looks like a ghost in the FB video he posted after Miami today.

I think this is what I started following with my first marathon many years ago. It had me maxing out at 55 miles per week, no more then 5 days running per week, speed and VOS2 workouts midweek, with long runs on the weekend. I still follow a similar plan still, yet heavily modified. Are you looking at a pfitz training plan?

Pushed myself in my run for the first time since I fractured my ankle. I am so sore today. Definitely gonna spend some quality time with my foam roller tonight.

Got some pain along the bone from knee to ankle right in the middle of the meat of my calf. It's only on the inside wall. Overdoing it or poor form?

for people that run before sunrise or after sunset, do you wear a reflector? headlamp?

hmm. a little confused where the pain is located. But since you are coming back from the ankle injury and haven't ran in a while, it's probably from overdoing it. start with running 2x a week and work from there, with time to stretch after

injuries are the worst. best to tackle it early on so it doesn't turn into something more severe

First race of the year next weekend. 5k "Partners in Pain" with my daughter. Currently tracking on a St. Patrick's Day 5 miler and Bloomsday (12k) in May. She might get up to a half this year or next, but not sure
I can keep up with her at those distances.

Surprised myself and pulled out a 4M PR this morning. Was hoping for a good race, but was not expecting this result. Nice when everything lines up on race day.

Daughter and I got 1st place in the mixed team bracket. She PR'd by almost a minute which is really impressive given the ice/snow on the course and that it is her first race of the season. She certainly does hold a grudge...she remembered the older guy from last year that suggested she start from the back and smoked him. She created a lot of separation on some of the uphill to "break his soul because hills are where we make our money."

Great job sticking with it on a rough day. I find that I learn more from those days then anything. When you have to dig deep, almost will yourself, to finish.

Doing my first half in keto (no carbs) in march. Taken me over a year to get adapted to running long without carbs, but I think I'm finally there. Did 10 miles yesterday at 8:13 pace which is about 10 seconds better than my PR pace for a half.

Thanks, yeah it was a battle. I think in terms of the big picture I could only run 100 meters in August after leg surgery and to be running 10 miles on that tough of a course shows a lot of progress, I'll continue to bump up the training slowly. The mistake would be to go nuts after how last weekend went and rapidly increase intensity of training, just have to be patient.

Nice work today. Enjoy that taper. Shamrock weekend will here before you know it. I am in the chunky, big milage part of my training, coupled with shorter races, so feeling the work right now.

Found a 5K that I want to do. I've never done any kind of race and it's a little over a month away. I want to sign up but every time I think my ankle is good to go it starts misbehaving again. I found this 7 day rehab program where you run every day but it's like 10 minutes walking, 10-15 minutes light running then around 35 minutes biking or more walking.

I've never run consecutive days (I was 3 days a week at my max) so this will be interesting but I'm ready to get better and start working towards something. And this run sounds really fun so I'd love to compete. It comes with a ticket to a Memphis Grizzlies game and a craft beer festival after the race.

Welp... I just committed to Rhode Races - Newport full on April 15th. I have been doing long runs, sticking to a nice training plan, so not like I am winging it and just signing up. But as we all know, there is that small part that gets a little anxious once you pay the race fee and know what is ahead of you. Looking forward to Easter in Newport, and also going to Trillium Brewery in Canton post race. Nothing like great beer after you just logged 26.2 miles.

I want so bad to say yes, but alas, no. You will not die. Depending on if you have done any training at all, it could be challenging to run 3.1 miles if you have done nothing to prepare. If you do anything athletic on a regular basis, you should be fine. Just be smart.

Do not go out too quick, try and not to get caught in the moment and channel your inner Usain Bolt, only to run out of gas after the first mile. Start out slow. A good way to check pace, you should be able to talk, comfortably, to the person next to you while running. As the race moves on, see how you feel and adjust, either slower or faster, accordingly.

But above all else, have fun and good luck. Report back after the race, we all love a good running story.
