I would agree with you for their last two albums but to say that about Parachutes and A Rush of Blood is an absolute fallacy

    Dear Coldplay fans and friends...

First of all, thankyou for the incredible year you have been giving us so far; from asking for our songs on the radio, to buying an album, to coming to a show; we owe you in a big way. As audiences you have been incredibly awesome to play for, and I might add that your singing has been in excellent form.

In the spirit of trying to do things a bit differently and keep everything fresh, we are going to do a few musical moves that we have not previously attempted. Firstly, in a few weeks we are going to release a version of Lost! which has a guest experience on it in the form of JAY-Z.

Then in November, we are happy to announce we are putting out an E.P. called PROSPEKT'S MARCH. It contains five songs that were not finished back in May (our deadline for Viva La Vida) but that have just been completed. They are:

    1. Life In Technicolor ii (which is a song)
    2. Postcards From Far Away
    3. Glass Of Water
    4. Rainy Day
    5. Prospekt's March / Poppyfields
    6. Lost +
    7. Lovers in Japan [Osaka Sun Mix]
    8. Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground

We are very proud of these and are pretty excited to release them. They have been the subject of many discussions and arguments; some might be considered too catchy or too heavy for Coldplay songs but in our minds they complete the VIVA LA VIDA picture.

If you want to get the E.P. you can download it or order it from the internet or you can get it in a special edition of the album called "Viva La Vida: Prospekt's March Edition".

We really hope you enjoy it and we look forward to singing these songs with you in cities across the world.

Thanks for reading - sorry about the handwriting.

    love CHRIS
I find it interesting the one song they said would be on there, Luna the one with Kylie Minouge is absent from the tracklist. Yet we get another version of Lost and Lovers in Japan. Though I must say I'm pretty excited for Life in Technicolor 2.

Good afternoon. We're pleased to be able to confirm the release date of both the Prospekt's March EP and the special version of the album containing the EP's eight tracks, which will be called Viva La Vida Prospekt’s March Edition. The dates are as follows (the EP and the album are released on the same day in each country)...

Wednesday 19th November - Japan, Sweden (digitally on 21st)
Friday 21st November - Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Denmark, Norway, South Africa
    Saturday 22nd November - Australia
Monday 24th November - UK, rest of the world
Tuesday 25th November - USA, Canada, Spain

The Lost! digital bundle will still be released on November 10th worldwide. The tracklisting for that is as follows...

    1. Lost! (album version)
    2. Lost? (acoustic version)
    3. Lost@ (live at Chicago)
    4. Lost+ (with Jay-Z)

    Anchorman
Well I'm dissapointed Lost+ is going to be on the B-sides album if it was also getting released on the Lost EP.

Does anyone know how many bsides have been officially released, or at least leaked throughout their career. I have maybe 5 or 6, but does anyone have a list or anything so I can try to find any I'm missing? Thanks!

Agreed, VLV has some really great, original music on it. Altho I might be biased because I pretty much love everything this band has put out thus far.

They have an "album" called A Rush of B-sides to the Head which has a bunch of cool stuff as a start. Obviously that only takes you through AROBTTH but it's a healthy start. I don't believe there were very many with X&Y.

I personally think VLV is their best album, but even if it's not. There is no way in hell X&Y is better. That album is crap.

A while ago I downloaded an album called Castles and it was just a ton of B-sides from them. Some really good stuff on there. There's a song called Crest of Waves that is just phenomenal. So, I'm sure if you look around on the internet you can find it.

ComeNFrmTheCold - are you serious? I don't know you can think X&Y is better than Viva La Vida. But, to each his own.

I agree with everyone that Viva La Vida is a step in the right direction. Someone said it here, or if not here I read it somewhere else, but I think Viva La Vida is Coldplay's OK Computer. Now, I'm not saying they sound alike at all, but it was the album that really sounded different than their other stuff and led them down a different path of amazingness (imo).

Dude! I'm not sure how it happened, but Crest of Waves was definitely the song that got me into Coldplay. Great stuff.

lol, I don't know. I like that you haven't posted in this thread at all and then come in just to ask me this. Makes me feel a bit special!

To keep this on track, though, so the EP comes out this Christmas and they are going to release an LP next Christmas? Is that what they have said?

Nah. Not even close. VLV is so overproduced. Most songs like Lost! have trite, meaningless lyrics. Even in VLV they're singing about the Crusades, so which is so ridiculous IMO... Most songs are musically droning like Violet Hill (by far the worst song they've ever put out) and Death and All His Friends. Really the only gems are Lovers in Japan and Strawberry Swing.

The fact that anybody thinks that this is there OKC is pretty laughable considering how much better Parachutes and Rush is. I agree that X&Y was pretty bad album overall, but at least most of its songs had meaning and didn't have Apple commercial written all over it. I hate to say it but just like every other underground band that achieves commercial success, they sacrificed their distinct and original (if you could even say that) sound in order to cater achieve greater accessibility of the masses. They let their success interfere with their artistic ability, and thus we get an album like X&Y and VLV...Coldplay isn't the first band to lose their direction, and they sure as hell won't be the last.

    Agree to disagree I suppose.

Can someone point me in the right direction to those B-sides that are being spoken of?

I had never tied the concept of B-sides to Coldplay before, and I don't know why.

So if anyone can help me out, just by pointing me in the right direction or, if you feel generous, PMing me, I would be grateful.

To keep this on track, though, so the EP comes out this Christmas and they are going to release an LP next Christmas? Is that what they have said?
Ok the release schedule looks like this:

    November 10th - Lost EP
    November 25th - Prospekt's March EP
    TBA 2009 - New LP

    Lost EP: 1.) Lost! 2.) Lost? 3.) Lost@ (live in Chicago) 4.) Lost+ (with Jay-Z)

Prospekt's March: 1.) Life in Technicolo II 2.) Postcards From Far Away 3.) Glass of Water 4.) Rainy Day 5.) Prospekt's March / Poppyfields 6.) Lost+ 7.) Lovers in Japan [Osaka Sun Mix] 8.) Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground

The Prospekt's March EP will be released in Japan on the 19th of November. Which is the 18th here, so I'm sure it will get leaked sooner then later.

So, Viva La Vida is more overproduced than X&Y? If anything, they are the same in terms of production. But, it feels like X&Y was overproduced just for the sake of sounding "big." Viva La Vida sounds like it had more of a purpose, if that makes any sense. Why is singing about the Crusades ridiculous to you? I think it shows a more maturity to their lyrics. Violet Hill is musically droning? Could you explain how it is musically droning. I think it's pretty dynamic and rocking. Death and All His Friends droning? I'm just baffled by that, to be honest. If you think Lover In Japan and Strawberry Swing (both phenomenal songs) are the only two good songs on this album, while it is your opinion, that's too bad. You're missing out on some good tunes.

Parachutes and Rush Of Blood are both phenomenal albums that sound entirely different than Viva La Vida. When I said Viva La Vida was their OK Computer I meant in terms of it being different than their previous work and if their future work is going to follow the same pattern as Viva La Vida has then I think we are in for a treat. Coldplay has achieved enormous world wide success and if you wanted to hate them because of it or hate their album because it was on an Apple commercial, well then that's your choice. But, again, you're going to be missing out on a lot of good music. Coldplay never had an original sound with Parachutes. Go check out the band Travis and you'll see what I mean. There are other bands out there that Coldplay sounded like when they first came out. Chris Martin's voice was the thing that made them stand out. Rush Of Blood is what made them stand out even more. Was that sacrificing their sound? Because it sure as hell doesn't sound like Parachutes. You call it sacrificing their sound and I can kind of see that in X&Y (except for Fix You because that song is nothing short of amazing), but I choose to call it evolving, honing your style, and maturing as a band. I never understood why people (I'm not saying you are one of them) refused to like music that was popular. It's like some people only want to like bands that nobody has ever heard of. Weird.

But, as you said. Agree to disagree. And that's what makes these discussions fun!
