^^^^Sweet

The only thing live from them I have right now is a cover of Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of my Head"

Which is outstanding, by the way.

Just got this email, can't wait to hear the live album! Does it say anywhere which shows the songs are from? And didn't they record a DVD at a couple of their shows last year, I think in Toronto?

Listening to it right now. It is pretty good. They have been giving a lot of stuff away free, well, only two things really, but still, some bands never give anything away. So they always do this?

Edit: Also, another quick question. Anyone know where I could get a copy of them playing "Bittersweet Symphony" from the Live 8 concert? I have the DVD, but I want a audio copy of it. Thanks.

Maybe with this free download I can get comments on this. I posted this a while ago.

Fast forward to 2:40 if you have no interest in the song:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HS5PIEmCAs&fmt=18

The live CD reminded me of this. That's absolutey insane.

Thats pretty awesome. I love how the security guards start to freak out.

The other funny thing to me is, and this isn't a bash at all, but the band can't jam at all they are so structured. The rest of the band just goes on like nothing is happening and finishes the song instead of improvising it and continuing to go.

Is there any difference between this download and the CD they're passing out at the shows, or are they exactly the same?

I think they are the same, but once those CD's start ciculating, there will be the chance for FLAC rips, etc. These are 192kbps mp3's.

They're totally different. One is a little round disc, the other is just bytes of data that you download.

Coldplay really is rather boring live. A shame they don't seem to be able to vary their sound that well.

I dunno, I thought they did really well on the X&Y tour. Now, if you are comparing them to DMB, of course, but they aren't really meant to be seen multiple times, it's just not their MO.

I saw them on the X&Y tour and on this tour and both times they were excellent. I wouldn't see them on multiple stops of a tour, but that doesn't mean they were bad.

On a more general note, i think varying setlists is a bit overrated. I saw Rob Thomas on a Matchbox Twenty documentary say that everyone who comes to their shows each night pay the same amount of money and so deserve the same quality show. So they come up with the best show they can do, with the best mix of songs, and they do it every night. Sure, it eliminates the need for someone to go multiple nights, but it also means you know that if you go, you're going to get a great show.
Unlike DMB where you could get #41, The Stone and Halloween one night, then the next get Old Dirt Hill, When the World Ends and Bayou. And bad luck if you only get a chance to go to that one show that has a poor setlist.

I disagree. If I wanted, I could write down the setlist from the night before, go to the Coldplay show and know exactly what was coming. I've seen Coldplay live and thought they were great so this isn't meant to insult them.

Going into a show and knowing you're in for a surprise is much more fun. Plus, it's good business sense for the band. You go to a show, don't get the song you wanted, or songs, so you might buy another ticket for another show in hopes you do get that song. This might lead to you following the band around for a while seeing varied setlists (people can argue this for DMB) from night to night. This makes more money for the band. So, I think it's a good thing to vary the setlist. However, I have seen bands that play the same set every night and had a great time. If I were in a band I would have to change the set night to night or I would get incredibly bored.

How big is the download for this live album?

I'm on limited usage right now so I can't really download anything too big.

It's like 56 mb or something like that. I really like it so far! It's not super diverse from what we have on the studio album, but they sound really good live and the mix is good for their sound.

I have enjoyed it the few times I have listened to it too. So has my wife. I think they only thing that could have made it better would be if they had put Life in Technicolor II on it. Even without it though, it is really good.

Have you guys seen the new Strawberry Swing video?

I thought the LiTii one was a bit retarded, but seeing him get up out of that last scene makes the work behind this one seem really cool. Props to Coldplay for staying outside the box.

Don't usually care about videos, but I thought that was pretty cool. Guessing that means we won't be getting a new album this year after all, since they're still releasing singles from VLV..
