    This. Well, I had to take my cousin's kids to see one of the movies. I zoned out completely.

    I can respect what the books do, but I'd rather read the medieval fantasy/sci-fi books that influenced the series; those aimed for an older audience as well.

    The thing about Harry Potter is that the people who love it today are those ones who grew up with it. The first book came out in 1998, so people who started reading them when they were 12-13 years old are finally seeing the series come to a close on screen.

    So while the books may be well-written and have increased childhood literacy over the years, it doesn't change the fact that they are oversimplified takes on classic archetypes and tropes and have way too many unnecessary subplots.
