A government shut down causes furloughs, decreased production, and a lot of lost economic value.

How did we get to a point where the party that once championed fiscal responsibility is now rooting for shutdown.

At a time when one party controls all branches of the federal government, it is an embarrassment that they have no ability to govern.

Great way to finish out his first year in office. Today is day 365 of him being President, and the government will be shutdown!

Any takers? Cause you are in for a long one.
I'm just waiting for the first person to try to falsly claim a government shutdown will prevent the military from being paid.

Oh wait, that was the Speaker of the House.

Honestly doubt many average Trump supporters had any idea who Jeffrey Lord was before CNN hired him knowing he was a conspiracy theory pushing crackpot. I mean the dude has 35k followers on twitter, not like he's a household name.

    That's not what I asked.

I didn't know who he was before cnn hired him either.

I would say that the vast majority of Trump supporters don't know who the hell Jeffrey Lord is and therefore don't have a real opinion of the guy. Also, I don't understand the relevancy of your question anyway. If your argument is "See guys CNN is unbiased because they hire unknown morons who push conspiracy theories to talk about Trump!" then that's a bad argument.

Also, even after being on CNN the guy has 35k twitter followers. That's one of the only numerical ways to get an idea of someone's popularity. Not like #MAGA nation swarmed his account with followers.

The purpose of my question was to push back on your theory that cnn hired someone purposefully to make conservatives look bad.

If people like him then that would seem like a more realistic reason as to why he was hired. Having him on there legitimized his beliefs and Trump's behavior/beliefs

Or if he was "loved to be hated" would be another reason.

Or CNN, like other media outlets (Fox being the worst) has basically become First Take and likes to hire some of the biggest dumbasses they can find to make stupid arguments because it attracts viewers.

    Gen. Kelly, probably.

NYT reported today that Kelly has threatened to quit on multiple occasions if Trump doesn't listen to him.

They can try to spin it that way all they want. It probably won't fly.

You can't be actively rooting for a shutdown, have your president wonder aloud whether it may be a good thing, and then try to blame the Dems as members of your own party votes a short term funding bill down and blames the majority leader

Yeah, sure. But there's not enough of those people for this to be a winning political position for the GOP.

Trump (after immigration hardliners ambush the Durbin-Graham meeting) renegs on the outline of the deal he agreed to last week and it's the Dems that won't compromise?

There was/is a compromise. It is a gang of 14 now. It isn't being considered because trump all of a sudden has become a perdue/cotton hardliner on immigration

Ryan/house decides to pass a partisan spending bill solely on their majorities knowing full well they need 60 to pass the senate. Isn't that on the house for not putting something together that can pass both Chambers?

Ryan/house passed a bill that, according to senators within the republican party, is like 4-5 votes short of just a simple majority.

But tell me again how democrats tlhave some of the blame.

Pretty much this. Stephen Miller, Perdue, and Cotton tanked a bipartisan deal that would have avoided this.

Going further back, the President had at multiple times sided with Dems on a clean DACA fix before hardliners in his party sunk it. If the President is on board, moderates are on board, Dems are on board; and then hard-line conservatives blow it up - how is that on Dems?

This could have been avoided in the first place had Trump not EO'd DACA away. And it could have been avoided again had congress done anything to address it.

The impasse of CHIP is even worse, IMO. The GOP is using children's health care funding as a political bargaining chip. That's gross, seeing as how at no time prior to this was the funding ever in question. And Trump can't figure out whether he wants a fix in this stop-gap, or not and instead fixed in a longer term bill. But while he figures it out, there's no funding.

The idea that the Dems are to blame when the GOP controls the federal government at all branches, and their president and hardliners are killing deals, is silly to me.

Personally I am sick of all the compromise from 2008-2016.

But tell me again how democrats tlhave some of the blame.
    Correct.

The House passes things all the time that they know the Senate won't support. The reason it matters this time is because this a government funding bill that will shut the government down if it doesn't pass both chambers. Due to this fact, the onus is on the House to pass something that can also pass the Senate, otherwise they are very clearly the cause of the shutdown. The logical chain is clear as day.

In all honestly I think the public is going to give the dems more blame than the GOP if a shutdown occurs. If you look at the timeline it is pretty clear that the GOP was willing to compromise but the dems were not:

First offer from the GOP was to grant amnesty to dreamers in return for curtailing chain migration. Dems said no.

Then the GOP said, OK - you all dug your heels in on the dreamers so fine, lets shelve that issue for now, we will keep allowing dreamers to re-enroll and we will add in support for the CHIP program. Stiull not good enough.

Then the GOP said, OK you are still stuck on dreamers so how about we get a simple funding bill with no provisos pushed through via a 50 vote threshold to avoid a shutdown. Schumer and Co balked again.

It is pretty easy to see that the GOP was willing to compromise but the dems were simply so fixated on the dreamers that they would not budge. The essence of a compromise IMO is basically an agreement that leaves neither side overly happy. The idea that the dems are more concerned with non-citizens than keeping our government running is not going to play well in many parts of the nation including swing states and states with dems defending senate seats in the fall, that will be a tough decision to justify - especially in red or purple states. Once our military stops getting paid, social security and unemployment checks are held up, monuments closed, etc, etc the is going to look for someone to blame and I do not think it is a stretch that many will wonder why in the hell the dems (knowing full well the GOP had no intention of deporting dreamers even if protecting was not included in THIS bill) are so fixated on people here illegally at the expense of actual citizens. I know this one is going to be spun by both parties the way they want it but those who have read the facts and know the timeline are going to be inclined to take this out on the dems in 2018.
