Backstage at Dallas!

Got the exciting opportunity to meet up with Henry (Carters drum tech) again yesterday at the Dallas show. To say it's a surreal experience is an understatement.

Dude is the absolute best and I am forever grateful to him for always making time despite how insanely busy he is now stage managing and taking care of Carter.

First thing was how the Virginia Beach show that got canceled nearly ruined the kit. Hardware is rusted, cymbals are tarnished. The kit is in pretty terrible shape right now, but he still has it sounding incredible.

We were talking hi hats and how he's looking for something a little less bright than the ones Carter currently uses. I made a recommendation and it seems he'll be making the switch during the break.

We talked a bit more about gear and the tour so far. Carters sticks with the yellow grip are now only available through the dmb store. I use those and haven't bought them since they're so much more expensive through them, so he hooked me up with 3 perfectly matched pair for Carter which was awesome. He also upgraded us to pit.

All in all it was a great time and again, so very thankful. Just thought I'd share!

Awesome story and pics, as per usual. But I still think it’s total crap that Carter hasn’t bothered to make an effort to meet you and the other guy after all this time. Really bizarre actually. But what an awesome experience regardless.

    Nice - thanks for posting!

I’m confused as to how the equipment got wet at VA Beach... it was known ahead of time that there were going to be torrential downpours, wasn’t it? So, I would have expected that they would have taken the necessary precautions to not leave the equipment out in the open.

I think it's simply a he doesn't want to be bothered and he has a very strict schedule. If he wants to meet you he will. Otherwise, nada.

I'm just beyond thankful for the friendship I've formed with Henry.

What did you recommend for hats? Something in the K line I'd assume? Did he mention if they were getting new shells and hardware during the break? Such a shame those RC shells took a beating.

Yeah the 14" K Sweets. I got a pair for my 2nd kit and they seem like exactly what he wants. Cut and chick without the harsh overtones of the new beats.

Shells seem fine but the hardware and cymbals really took a beating. Flat ride cymbal arm was nearly completely rusted over

We got to the pit at doors so we actually saw you wandering around the kit. Very cool. Any official word on the lack of sticks being handed out? Carter clearly had a great time both nights but never got within 20 feet of the edge of the stage. Seemed really intentional.

Awesome! I had a million people asking to buy the sticks Henry gave me lol.

And I think it's one of 2 things. If I remember right, I think someone sued him or tried since they were hit with a stick. So he's stopped all together or he just is ready to get to the bus now.

Just my thoughts, not official. Definitely noticed he's not thrown any out anymore.

Holy shit, I saw you in the pit. I was walking by and saw some dude with three sets of sticks in his pocket and was like... wtf???

Wish I'd known it was you. I'd have stopped and had a beer with you.

I think it came up so quick they couldn't get everything covered or off the stage quick enough. Probably all the salt didn't help?

Next time you see Henry try ask him why carter all of a sudden quit throwing sticks out. I’m curious.
