Pit shifting is the worst. Big reason why I just hang out in the back/middle area.

Ooof, that reminds me of that 30 for 30 on the tragedy at Hillsborough. Watching the videos of the waves of crowd movement gives me cold sweats.

Same thing happened to me at the House of a Blues in Chicago. I was about 10 feet farther from the stage then at the beginning of the show, with no noticeable moving throughout. Unreal.

Waiting for this to happen at the Gorge or WPB PIT (anywhere where they oversell PIT)

we were still on the rail, just more towards the side than where we started. And at one point during the show it became noticeable, and I spent part of the show consciously trying to prevent it, to no avail

This is awesome for some people, and totally sucks for others. It almost completely defeats your chance of getting rail if you only go to one or two shows, but I am sick of seeing the same people on the rail at every show, and even more sick of people not even needing to wait in line anymore because their friends hold their spot for them for hours at a time and they arrive with numbers on their hands already

^ just backread, glad I'm not the only one bothered by that. I enjoy getting rail every now and then since I go to shows alone and am pretty short, so I feel like I can engage a little better without being on my tiptoes and surrounded by tall sweaty guys. Also, since I go alone, I don't mind getting there early and waiting since I literally have nothing better to do.

I wasnt aware the sharpie thing was so widespread. If people were showing up with numbers on their hands and cutting a few mins before gates thats pretty messed up.

Totally happens a lot, and the reason I called these people hypocrites (in addition to be psychos ) a few pages back - if some random person tries to move up in the pit or line, they rage. But if their railbird buddies want to show up late and cut in line, they have no problem with it.

unfortunately. It's usually the same group of people all across the country, they are loud, rude, obnoxious and it is impossible to reason with them

If the sharpie system is done with integrity it’s the best way.

That said unless band management helps control it or designated someone to make sure it’s done right it has its issues.

People have the right to spend their time waiting in line or not to get rail. If you put in the time you should get rewarded.

Jax pit was so much fun and spacious. No sweaty bros rubbing all over me, no pushing and shoving etc. Gorge pit was the worst. Literally just attempting to stand in the very back, it's so oversold that it's completely nuts to butts and half the people in there haven't showered for days.

Part of the problem at the Gorge isn't that they oversell it, its the scalpers getting people in there. Last year when I was there I saw scalpers that were just selling the pit wrist bands. That way, when people got to the pit, they just flashed their wrist and were let in. Happens every year there from what I was told.

Been in the pit maybe 20 times. Being on the rail is miserable. The sound is awful. Best sound in the house is 15-20 rows back on either side in alignment with the speakers. I go to DMB shows for the music, not try and catch the band’s sweat on my tongue.

Rail was fun the one time I did it, but totally agree. I like to be a little ways back and centered, so I'm still close enough to see the band's playing and interaction but also get the full effect of the stage, light show, etc...

Being on the rail is like sitting in the front row at the movies.

Re: New WH GA PIT Policy...

I saw Tyler, the Creator a few years ago in a pretty small, all GA venue. We got in line about 3 hours before doors and were 10th in line or so. After a couple hours, this girl had about 6 of her friends join her in line. I stepped up to them right away and said, "What the fuck do you think y'all are doing?" and they started threatening me and my group so we just laughed and turned away. 10 minutes later, a bouncer comes out and we (and the entire crowd behind us) starts yelling to kick that group out of line; the bouncer approaches the group and their ringleader started threatening to fight the bouncer

Needless to say, the bouncer told them to GTFO and if they showed back up, he would beat their ass. Anyway, we got 2nd row center when we got in. But the crowd was so out of control. Just thrashing around and pushing people. Had to move to the back where the bar was to cool down after about 5 songs lol... I love Tyler's music but his fans are the absolute worst... maybe worse than DMB's.

GA Pit is up there with one of the worst things this band ever did. Miss the days of Seated Pit.

Everyone still stands in a seated pit, which is still nice because it gives you a set amount of space.

Can't wait to hang out on the BACK rail in Hartford. How nice it will be only 12 rows back with nobody around me. I can also pre-game in the lots and not worry about getting in this stupid line early! It'll also be nice to see other things besides Dave's feet.

Did it in Nashville SAT, well organized, started handing out Pit wristbands with numbers at 5:15p, got mine just before the 5:45 cutoff, got number 116, they went up to 127. At 5:45 they picked the random number = 94

So I was 23rd in order, maybe 5 didn't show up, so about 18th in line. Walked in by security at 6:25ish, a few minutes late. Got rail between Tim and Buddy.
