I think its their lost of creativity. You never get that back, not in their current environment.

    I place it on top.

I can't judge it as an album since it wasn't finished but to me it feels like the most genuine of all of them.

.....meaning, it rings truer to me..... I feel more when I listen to it.

If it had been finished the right way, I think it would have been their best album.

I would really love to agree with you but the one fear is that I have is all based on the 04 songs. GGT, JR, SW, HA, and CE, were awesome songs and ONE of those made it onto the album and was butchered in half. A second song was released as a b-side and was a sad sad sad shadow of its live-self. As it stands with the songs we have now, yes, this could be a great album; but I am choosing to wait for the final product before ranking the new album above any others...

Yes, but you know the would have been solid gold if they were produced by Jesus Lillywhite.

I think they would have SOUNDED better for certain. Whether or not they would have lyrically changed at all I don't obviously know. I don't fully subscribe to the idea that Lillywhite is the one and only for the band. And my personal opinion is that Joy Ride could never be 'solid gold' regardless of who produced the track.

I love Joyride's lyrics actually, though I know a lot of people don't.

It reminds me of WWYS Dave, who has mostly fallen off a cliff.

Lyrically it wasn't horrible no but I thought the music was entirely too derivative of many things they had done before.

And yes that Dave has fallen of a cliff but I do believe he is climbing up a different cliff and we may see a great Dave soon but maybe not a 'WWYS Dave.'

I was starting to think I was the only one who liked Joyride. I totally dig it, and have from the first time I heard it live.

I understand what you are saying, but with Everyday, it was rushed and was basically a pop album. Stand Up was R&B. Neither of those are DMB. But I really think Cavallo knows what he's doing and can get an album better than those two, with or without the songs we already have. Maybe I'm just expressing my optimism towards Cavallo and the new album.

Hmmm. I think LWS could be better but I don't feel its better than BS. BS does have YNK but it also has WAYG. LWS has JTR and Monkey Man. My 2 main complaints about BS is 1) The album SOUNDS flat. There is no added gravitas to the bass or drums at the correct moments and to me, that can make or break Bartender. 2) Some of the lyrics just didn't need to be changed and/or removed. Raven and Grey Street suffer the most from this.

I've got a lot of faith in Cavallo, but I'm expecting much more than an album better than Everyday or Stand Up. I want greatness.

I look at it like this. At my job I've been in charge of 3 projects in the last 8 months, and I've nailed all the 3 of them. The new project I'm working on isn't going as great, and my bosses are not happy because I'm not meeting expectations. Once you prove you can do great things you are expected to always do great things. I want the band to produce something great, and I don't think they can do it with songs they have played over the last 2 years. I really hope he's pushing them in the studio musically and Dave lyrically.

There is no added gravitas to the bass or drums at the correct moments and to me, that can make or break Bartender. 2) Some of the lyrics just didn't need to be changed and/or removed. Raven and Grey Street suffer the most from this.
Busted Stuff sounds like something they felt obligated to do rather than something they wanted to do.

I agree. I think they did it simply so they didn't have tLWS as their only representation of those songs.

I'm also expecting something more than just "better" than ED and SU. While I'm not expecting "The Big 4", just because the album is new and not made in the 90s, I think it will be a very solid album, like a 8 overall, with BTCS, Crash, and UTTAD all being 9.9-9. Maybe in 5 years it will become The Big 4, but when it first comes out, because it will be new and sound different, I think we won't see it as being the 4th.

And I think the songs they have now are a solid start. I just don't want half the album to be old stuff. IOY, Shotgun, Cornbread, #27, plus 8-ish new songs is what I'm expecting. We have to remember that songs like Cornbread and #27 aren't going to be the ones that are carrying this album. The new stuff (and shotgun) *should* be strong points, with the others as role players that while they don't come off as the showcase songs, they are still solid songs that nobody would be disappointed with.
