I look at it like this. At my job I've been in charge of 3 projects in the last 8 months, and I've nailed all the 3 of them. The new project I'm working on isn't going as great, and my bosses are not happy because I'm not meeting expectations. Once you prove you can do great things you are expected to always do great things. I want the band to produce something great, and I don't think they can do it with songs they have played over the last 2 years. I really hope he's pushing them in the studio musically and Dave lyrically.

I'm also expecting something more than just "better" than ED and SU. While I'm not expecting "The Big 4", just because the album is new and not made in the 90s, I think it will be a very solid album, like a 8 overall, with BTCS, Crash, and UTTAD all being 9.9-9. Maybe in 5 years it will become The Big 4, but when it first comes out, because it will be new and sound different, I think we won't see it as being the 4th.
And I think the songs they have now are a solid start. I just don't want half the album to be old stuff. IOY, Shotgun, Cornbread, #27, plus 8-ish new songs is what I'm expecting. We have to remember that songs like Cornbread and #27 aren't going to be the ones that are carrying this album. The new stuff (and shotgun) *should* be strong points, with the others as role players that while they don't come off as the showcase songs, they are still solid songs that nobody would be disappointed with.
