I think that was obvious at the C-Ville show last year...didn't most of the crowd leave after JTs set?

One of the dumbest things I've seen written on these boards and there are a lot of dumb things on here.

100%. I went to the show with a buddy of mine who was in Grad School at UVA at the time, and at the party beforehand every single person was referring to it as the "Justin Timberlake concert". I tried to convince people to stick around for the FREE DMB show (they didn't even have class the next day) and nearly everyone said they'd rather go to the bar once JT finished.

DMB won't leave a legacy like the Grateful Dead, they will leave a legacy *because* of the Grateful Dead. The Dead started it all, and it has simply carried over to news bands and generations.

The sales and quality of their studio albums were less than eye opening (initially, at least--American Beauty was certified platinum 16 years after its release) and essentially all of their popularity was dependent on their touring. Their touring created the community and support for live music. Hell, even a lot of their live shows were not anything to write home about, but it eventually transcended all of that. It became more than just the music. It was the atmosphere. The people. The *cough* drugs *cough*. The love and trust that the crowd had in the band, and the love and trust the band had in the crowd. That's the legacy they created--other bands just continued the tradition.

You’re not looking hard enough! But seriously, I used a little exaggeration to make a point, outside of a dedicated fan base the band is viewed as a 90’s band that is still chugging along. I love dmb, but once they’re gone it’s not going to be like everyone starts fawning over their greatness.
