I think the most realistic take I've heard on this was what, of all people, Tom Brady posted on his Instagram.

If that's true, it also means that the fatality rate will go down. With the way the virus information is coming in it can't be simultaneously 10x more deadly than the flu and drastically under-tested to the tune of 100s of thousands of people. The 100s of thousands of non-tested positives are anywhere from mild illness to not sick at all.

The SVP of NCAA said March Madness is still on with fans just a few minutes ago.

Like I said multiple times. If events are going on now, I have a hard time thinking events like a concert are going to be canceled in June.

Not even May this year. It’s mid June, so that another month further out then usual.

Stop with "the media". Gaslit people do that to reject things they don't like. Italy and China don't shut down whole cities due to nonsense nor do they watch american media. People who love to mock so so smart.

The media has been peddling apocalyptical pathogen narratives forever. Ebola, the West Nile virus, the Zika virus, mad cow disease, swine flu, SARS, etc. For decades they've been telling us humanity is on the cusp of being completely eradicated by some plague. Coronavirus, just like all of its predecessors, isn't going to be a catalyst for human extinction. Give it a few weeks and it will be quickly forgotten about just like Ebola was. By the time the summer tour comes around, the coronavirus will be yesterday's news.

If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.

Ebola infected like 3 people in the US years ago. This is different. Won't be going away in a few weeks.

Yea, I was kind of amazed to hear that, but I'm supposed to see Tool next month and feel like there's probably a greater chance it'll be cancelled than not at this point.

Those masks don’t do shit except help prevent the spread of the infected are wearing them. You need a full respiratory mask if you want to prevent yourself from getting it. Masks everyone is wearing don’t do shit.

There is conflicting data regarding particulate filters preventing ingress of a droplet airborne virus, however a large secondary benefit of any mask (doesn't even have to be N95 or above) is the physical barrier to help prevent against accidental and unconscious facial touching, which is probably the largest contributor to the spread of diseases like influenza.

Yeah, there are dozens of basketball games being played everyday with large crowds as it stands today. More risk for attendee's? Yes but a bad idea to continue to have the tournament, I don't really think so.

    Plenty of examples in Europe.

If we get the spread here that they’ve had, we’ll see the same in the US. I don’t see anyone cancelling summer tours yet and probably wouldn’t make that call until May. Would be silly to do it this early. And if you do see a band cancel summer shows this early and use coronavirus as an excuse... it’s just that, an excuse.

Unrelated, but kind of related: I could see a major shift in coming years where movie theaters start to fade out. Coronavirus aside, I think with the continued success of streaming platforms we're going see major movie studios release movies as in-home-pay-per-view. Add the fact that everyone is scared to leave their homes? The money is there waiting.
