will never ever root for the slow play culprits

(they all play slow, but some more slowly than others--na is a prime suspect)

I'll be watching for sure if DJ is in contention, also Kevin Na is painfully slow.

na, holmes, day, spieth....all glacially slow

obviously they are playing a different stratosphere of golf than I am but slow play is the most frustrating thing in the world to me in my own rounds and so that carries over to my fandom

I haven't really paid much attention to Na until recently when he was paired with Tiger.

Spieth and Day are definitely frustrating to watch sometimes though.

My favorite rounds are early summer, tee off around 6:30p and no one else in front. Can cruise through a full round being light out till 9:00.

Don't get enough of those in anymore.

I'd love for someone to do a study on how the characteristics of your playing partner alters your score. I remember Tiger saying a long time ago that while he loves Jim Furyk as a person, watching that swing for 18 holes can have a weird effect on you. I imagine having to watch Na play insanely slow gets in your head after a few holes.

My course will let me go off on 3 this way. Home before the wife and kid are awake most Saturdays.

Are you walking 18 in under 2 hours? My record is 2:20, but there are a couple of long ass walks between holes.

Check out Pia Nilsson’s books. Covers this and how to deal with it.

no, not walking. the course I played at saturday has incredible elevation changes on the back 9, no chance anybody is walking there.

Turned out to be a nicer weekend than anticipated so I didn't watch much yesterday. What the hell happened to DJ yesterday? Leader after 54 holes and has an absolutely dreadful round. Has a world #1 ever failed so spectacularly (probably given how golf is)… but that just seems incredible.

Don't know what Shot by Shot is, but I use 18 Birdies to track my rounds and get distances.

Might check that out, Shot by Shot was recommended but I guess there are a bunch of similar apps and seems like it would be helpful

Yeah I mostly just use it to keep track of my rounds, there is also a feature that lets you track your shots so if I hit a bomb off the tee I like recording that info

It also gives you a breakdown (based on what you've put in) about how many greens/fairways you've hit, how many putts per hole, etc. It's just a useful way to see how well you're playing.

i believe in that. when i play with my buddies, who are a notch or two below my talent level, i usually dont fare all that well. often times its cause its not a serious round and there are beers involved, yada yada yada. but then i play with my dad, whose index is around a 7, and my game seems to elevate. he's usually giving me tips and suggestions and i'm usually going into the round with a focused mindset.

I'm sure most believe in it. I definitely tend to play better when playing with those above my talent level. Of course, I still have good or bad rounds that go against that. Recently just had my best round in nearly 2 years playing as a single with 3 dudes who were pretty awful.

I tend to play my game regardless of who I'm playing with, maybe screw around a bit and try low percentage shots if it's with buddies drinking but there is one big exception which seems to be the opposite from your experience..

One of my parents friends is a scratch golfer and has won the club championship at The Country Club in Brookline 6X, he stands on the tee box when you are hitting, tells you what he likes and doesn't like about your swing, tries to coach you on everything to the point he'll grab your club and direct it for you, he can be completely in your face and overbearing and I usually play like crap when paired together. I've asked him to stop, half jokingly waved my club around like a fly swatter to get room. I already take lessons regularly and know my strengths and weaknesses and what to focus on mechanically and usually shoot in the low 80's, it's so annoying .

No way I could deal with that TS#s. I’d probably club him with granddads old wooden driver I carry around.

I’m not very good anyway...but when I end up getting paired with someone I don’t know, guaranteed to have a terrible round. I try to play off times mostly to avoid getting paired up. That’s for the sake of others too... no one wants to play with someone having a terrible round.

I just spent a few hours watching the Big 10 Championship. Its 10 minutes from my house. Spectacular course. Sadly the winds are crazy today. Winds are gusting up to 50 mph. Purdue was in first place after day 1 at 2 over. They are 18 over today and are not even through 9 holes yet. Its a great way to see a tournament. No ropes. You can just walk along with the players. My son loved it. Its not too often a kid can see college golf.

Stupid bet. Should have bet he wins one more major this year he'd probably get good odds.

Wait he bet he wins 100k he wins the tiger slam? Because that’s fucking insane.

Now, the odds are probably in the neighborhood of “generationally wealthy” but still. Insane.
