By suffering you mean having to legally pay back the money the borrowed that has allowed them to gain employment?

if we go by the premise that college isn't big business, then it was wrong for colleges to take advantage of the government backed loans to inflate the costs exponentially

and also, the interest again. it's literally a tax on poor people who want an education, thus just another way to hold poorer people back. I borrowed $43k, paid back over $38k, and still owe $32k (which will turn into about $60k when all is said and done). It's predatory.

If your only point is we should keep investigating...sure. But at this point in time, impeachment is a sure fire way to lose in 2020. You can investigate without impeachment.

Without backing into the numbers, that's just how interest works. I purposely pushed out of my mind how much I was paying for my home on the contract how much money I will actually pay the bank. The two are different ball parks.

College is expensive because there are more buyers than sellers. If you think the government helps inflate costs what you mean is the less people to go to college the less it will cost to go. Good luck running on that platform!

yes, that's a bad excuse, but its probably 90% of the people that took loans.

and again, my issue isn't with paying my loans back. it's with charging 6-9% interest against poor students trying to get an education, which will help the economy.

If nothing else it's bad business for the government, I think- I'm not sure what's more impactful, the $100k or so I'll spend on interest, or the fact that I was delayed in buying houses and cars, and many people will never be able to. Charging such high interest rates seems like it would mitigate the government's ROI on the economy.

I didn't mean to imply that you don't know how interest works, I was just reinfocing what a mother fucker interest is. I think I got my mortgage at prime and I'm still going to give the bank 2x more than what I agreed to pay on the contract.

You can knock down a point but it's not going to be a massive change, imo.

Kids for the most part are in a bubble through high school. College is about learning your bubble ain’t shit relative to the rest of the world.

I do like Mayor Pete’s ideas on a year of service. Would also help break the bubble and probably has a better ROI than 1 year of college gen ed.

you can refi a house, a car, a boat...can;t refi student loans

our "billionaire" president can have his businesses lose a billion dollars and file for bankruptcy, but student loan borrowers in default can't

Not sure if you remember from "The Prompter" days but I started a thread about fixing education and one of the ideas I had was that if you're not in a college/GED program or job by 20, then you'd have to enlist in a service. Maybe not ideal but at it at least attempts to get younger adults onto a more positive track.
