"House, M.D." Appreciation Thread

I searched, and didn't find one... so with mild trepidation I submit this thread for your approval.

A new episode is on tonight. Anyone else love this show? I admit, I was skeptical at first. "Oh, another hospital show. Great." "A smart-aleck character? Gee, how original."

But the show is so much better than that--more "Colombo" than "ER"--and Gregory House is a far more interesting specimen than some cookie-cutter, prime-time wise-cracker.

Yes, I like this show quite a bit. Dr. House reminds me of my husband (really smart, and also really a smartass).

I have never seen a character like him on television before--someone who cuts to the bone so ruthlessly, and who doesn't put on a show of false-humility or tenderness, yet is not treated as some kind of villain. Great writing.

Oh, and if this is going to be the 24um on Mondays, then we should continue the mental retardation and call it "The House" on Tuesdays.

Very cool show. I'm amazed at what a great job Hugh Laurie has done with the title role.
It's funny to go back and watch old episodes of Blackadder with Hugh and Rowan Atkinson and see what a huge change there is. I knew it would be good but it definitely beat my expectations.
I love the opening theme from Massive Attack's "Mezzanine" album. Great cast and great storylines. Very original series.
Loof for a lot of 24'ers to tune in tonight to see Leslie Hope, who played Teri Bauer in Season 1 of 24, as the guest star.
This is definitely my favourite new show of 2004/2005.

Two things about tonight - (1) I guessed rabies as soon as I saw the bats and (2) I'm such a girl - I got all emotional during the lame ending scene where "Paul" forgave her.

Next week does look better though.

The characters are developing well. I like Cuddy, his boss--she could have been a sort of flat, generic character with no other job than to hate House, but she's shown some interesting twists. And it makes sense, after all she did hire him.

This is a great show. I missed the first two episodes when the series started, but I've been hooked ever since. Last night episode was great. Leslie Hope is a very talented actor. Next week's episode looks really good as well. It will be interesting to see what they do to Dr. House about his Vicodin addiction.

That needle going into the eye was freaky. I had to turn my head at that part. Good episode though. I can't wait until the series comes to dvd.

I love that show, haven't seen tonight (last nights) episode yet though, I had to tape it (played at an open mic tonight).

I actually got the first episode on DVD in my entertainment weekly and watched it before the show went on the air and loved it from the start. I had thought it looked pretty lame and probably never would have watched it if EW hadn't sent me the freebie.

Yeah, the unfortunate thing is that I think it will probably never have more than a cult following--it's just not a very "user-friendly" show, and since it's set in a hospital, most people are probably thinking its just some ER wannabe. Plus Greg House is a character who's not going to appeal to 90% of the network-watching crowd. If they had stuck this show on HBO, it would be another story.

I missed tonight's episode, alas. Had company over unexpectedly (though not unwelcome) and didn't watch. So... if anyone wants to give me a recap of pertinent plot developments, I would be more than grateful.
