I don't get it. Bard needed to be out after the first walk and not for Albers. I can't stand Albers. He was so bad last year.

Bard should be made closer.. My fantasy team would appreciate not getting cock teased for four innings before a meltdown

Just came across this with the nesn app.

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said that while nothing is imminent, the idea of playing third baseman Will Middlebrooks in the outfield has been "tossed around in some quarters."

"Well, it hasn't been a tabled discussion yet, so I don’t think it even has to enter his domain," Valentine told reporters prior to his team's game against the Royals Tuesday night in Kansas City. "That being said, I think he's a pretty –– again, small sample –– but my being around him is he's a pretty mature baseball guy. He's not going to be flustered by a lot of things."

I could envision a trade involving Middlebrooks for pitching, but the timing isn't good right now. If there was any assurance that Youk could stay healthy and perform over the next couple of years, I would definitely consider it. The sox are very deep at 3b in the minors, namely Bogaerts (currently an SS but projected to be a 3B) and Cecchini, but both are a few years off, hence the importance of knowing the future health and production of Youk. And since he is a big question mark at the moment, its not worth the risk of trading away Middlebrooks, who will be the starting 3B for at least the next couple of years.

I also wouldn't trade for Garza for the same reason that people have already mentioned, the cost control issue. Inserted into the rotation now, Garza would be the best or 2nd best pitcher that the sox would have, and he would certainly give a boost to the rotation. But the last thing the sox need to do is acquire a guy who will require a big money, long-term deal to retain, especially after having to give up Middlebrooks + others. The sox have too much money locked into long-term deals, some of which have turned out horrible, and they really need the roster to comprise of more productive, cost-controlled guys. I would try to make a move similar to the what the Yankees did with the Pineda acquisition, if they are going to go down that route.

I know you guys think I'm an asshole or the Felger of this forum. but seriously this team is fucked.

You can't say oh its only April, oh its only May it doesn't matter. These games are just as important. Last years final day of baseball the "greatest day of baseball ever" was all because of one game. One game if won in April/May or won in September and the biggest difference between last years team and this years team is that this years team is worse. Starting pitching is never consistent, bullpen is up and down and the lineup is only getting worse. 2nd in the AL in runs scored doesn't mean anything when you can't beat the Royals or the Oakland A's.

They need to shake up this team if/when Youk comes back healthy you need to think about trading him supposedly the market for Youk is better then most would think. Also this team lacks a real #1 ace you can't put any of the guys in the starting rotation in the same convo as some of the other number 1 pitchers in the league. This team needs a major shakeup or as bad as it is now its only going to get worse.

This team is in trouble? Get the fuck outta here!! This team needed Beckett clay and Lester to show up this year and none of them are. There is no way the make the playoffs with those 3 playing the way they are. It's that simple.

i said the same stuff a few weeks ago and was called crazy because its only mid-april

I expected Beckett to show up like this and truthfully Beckett has pitched well. just no surprise he is already pulling up lame.

Why does Bobby V always pull Bard too early? this is twice he has done it now and it backfired. I rather have Bard in for Bard in the 8th inning then anyone else in the bullpen

he was at 87 pitches, i don't know i think you're much better off with him at that point

he showed some real maturity last night after the second inning he settled down nicely and took control of the game, he can definitely make it as a starting pitcher just for the better of the team he needs to be in the pen

whoah....you said beckett, lester, and clay need to step up or we wont make the playoffs a few weeks ago and people disagreed with you? lol i'd love to see anyone in this thread say this team would be fine if clay, lester, and beckett didnt perform well.

this. he def can be a good starting pitcher.

i disagree that he shouldve been in the game at that point though. i like that bobby sent him out in the 8th. he deserved to have the chance to go back out there. i'm just sick of the same excuse by bobby, "i wanted to see if he could work himself out of that situation" he's used that too much. the only criticism i have of bobby last night is that he let bard continue after walking the leadoff man.

Agreed... I keep thinking that Bard is being left in too long most times. I could understand last night b/c the pen has pitched like 400 innings over the last few days... but it seems to happen every time he starts.

everyone except padilla was available last night.

87 pitches or 107 pitches. when you're walking 2 to put on the go ahead run in the 8th, you're done

Apparently Beckett went golfing last Thursday, the day after he was scratched from his Saturday start due to Lat stiffness. I don't think the Lat was an issue, I think he was just bumped back so they could get Cook a start and the Lat was just an excuse by the organization, but wtf is this guy thinking? You can't go out golfing when you're scratched due to Lat soreness when you're probably already the most hated athlete in Boston sports.

Mutt and Lou said it was confirmed. They dropped a name but I forget who it was.
