Is it a locked groove/repeating skip (playing the same clip of the song non-stop)? Or a skip that jumps to a different part of the song? If the latter, is there any visible damage to the groove on that spot?

What turntable do you have and what is your tracking force set to?

    I know it's 100 questions but they'll help determine what's going on

I'm saving mine for winter listening when I need a DMB boost. Too noisy in the house to listen to this release closely with all the fans and air conditioners running.

I still collect records over the summer but tend to just crack them open after summertime when I can enjoy in a quieter time.

Listened straight through again today while converting it to digital (for my personal use) and it gets better with each listen. Really digging Doobie Thing, Snow Outside, Toy Soldiers intro, and that Busted Stuff. Very cool vibe to the song that I haven't heard on other version.

I can't believe they haven't generated a DL link on DMBlive.com by now. The box set is sold out.

It's as if for the first time in this bands existence they just don't want my money.

Really just want to listen to this now, send help.

We just moved and I hiked up my Project Debut Carbon with some new speakers and this release is just amazing. But the sound is SO good it is really amazing! I love a dream so real, busted stuff, lover lay down and some of the relaxed improved versions of some of these songs. But seriously, a dream so real is a great song!

Break For It is waaayy too good of a song to be stuck in 2010.

I really wish they would have tried it during the Vegas shows that became LT9 and thus Roi had played on it. They sound checked it several times before N1.

on this note, I've really gained an appreciation for Snow Outside through the years. This version is fantastic, I remember it well. Too bad there's no tape of that night

I think a lot of that comes from people having a false assumption that musicians exist in this altruistic pure artist space where all they want is people to hear their music. And that's why most people start playing music, but if you are touring even on a regional basis you have a management team that is making sure you aren't burning money. A national touring act is first and foremost a business, and businesses are in the business of making money. It's why the band has a manager. People can derisively call him Cap$haw all they want, it doesn't change the fact that he's had an incredible run with a band touring virtually non-stop for 25 years and has kept it exciting and profitable. If they chose to "leave money on the table" with this release, maybe they are getting more out of it long term (especially in a year when the full band isn't touring) with keeping the band name out there, generating "buzz", than the short term payoff of a CD version would bring. 2 1/2 decades in, I'm going to assume Capshaw has a solid and competent long term plan. History would suggest he knows the long game very well.

I wasn’t as big of a fan of those either. KKJ was ok, but I wasn’t as impressed by this Shotgun. Doesn’t mean it was bad by any means, just when compared to the rest I’ve heard so far, it was mediocre.

I’ve seen KKJ live 3 times now. Once with lyrics and twice without. I think the 7/24/13 version without lyrics is just tits. I kind of prefer it that way.

I ripped mine to mp3 but the quality isn't the greatest. It sounds a little distant when I play it through my car. For those who also ripped this to mp3, do you have any suggestions as to how I can improve the quality of my conversion? Any help is appreciated.

You had said you have the Ion and used that to record? It's probably just an issue of a low quality table. Without something with proper features to calibrate, and a decent non-conical stylus, I wouldn't expect too much improvement in sound regardless of how you record

    Re: DMB Live 25 - 5LP Vinyl (180g)

Just finally got around to listening to this on my shitty turntable. I've been reading only great reviews about the quality of this release so I'm assuming the reason I wasn't that thrilled is because of my shitty set up (which I'm working to upgrade) but god damn this is a homerun release. Like honestly I feel like every song was perfect (pig had some slip ups) but I mean everything just flowed so perfectly. I have been asking for break for it to get released since 2010 and god damn it it finally happened and it's incredible. You can't tell from the YouTube videos but you can really hear daves guitar (?) strumming during the chorus and it's the same as that soundcheck from 2006. Just so good. Falling off the roof was very random but honestly in a good way. I like it. This absolutely needs to be released digitially I would have this on repeat in my car for months. Probably the best release they've put out in years.

Just finished Side D (Doobie Thing!) and I'm in love with this release so far... it really is a fitting retrospective of the band's career. From classics to rarities, old to new, the production sounds so good! You can close your eyes and just imagine you're at some club in Cville or summer amphitheater watching the boys jam out.

The whole "Cap$haw" thing like...do you think he's any different from Irving Azoff or David Weisz or any other big time manager/management company? It's a business...their goal is to make us much money possible for their client and, by proxy, for themselves. There aren't any managers out there going "You know what, let's try to minimize profits here."

Whenever this band releases something that someone doesn't like, it's a "money grab" and they're "taking advantage of the fans" - as if the fans don't have the personal choice to choose whether to buy or not buy something. But now, they release something that pretty much everyone wants, but on a limited basis, and those same people are having a fit that they aren't trying to squeeze every possible dollar out. It just boils down to "any time they don't do exactly what *I* want, they are awful, fuck this band!"

If they don't release this digitally (and I hope they do), it wasn't a "flub" or a mistake. It's not like they aren't aware that there are plenty of people who would like a CD or a download of this release. It's possible they simply made a decision to truly make these tracks special or limited or whatever verb you want to use. It's hypocritical to rail against them for trying to tap every single revenue stream for past releases, and then get upset the one time that they might actually be doing the opposite. People keep referring to these tracks as "highly sought after" - that might just be how they want to keep it.
Since this was posted shortly after my post with the "Cap$haw", I figured I'd respond.

First and foremost, the "Cap$haw" has been a long-standing joke on the boards. If you'll note, most uses of it involve a post with some sarcasm in it.

But if you really want to get down to it...

You reference Capshaw simply as the band manager and that's fine but there's a lot more to him than just that. For instance, he's done a great amount of commercial developing in Charlottesville. If you ask locals, some like it, some hate it.

Second, and this is really where the $ comes in to play, he founded Musictoday. From my recollection, one of the biggest reasons the $ started popping up was they'd have great sales of some sort ("$5 tees!") and then charged $20 for shipping. Shipping has gone down a bit since then - though still not the best - but yeah, definitely would price gouge on some things.

Third, the guy is simply just worth a lot of money. I've seen estimates over $1 billion. Wouldn't be surprised at all if that's accurate or low.

We can get into the whole "other bands (i.e. Pearl Jam) know how to put together cool things for fans better than DMB does" some other time because I'm pretty damn happy with this release.
