If I had to guess (also will ask next time I speak to my source) it was similar to the Come Tomorrow sessions, minus any Boyd.

    3. Interesting.
With regards to the single drop before the tour; this is more of hopeful on the bands' part, hoping that this does happen.

You can’t really even heard Boyd on it live, which is a probably good thing. Don’t need him on the studio version.

Early on in the 2016 Summer tour, Boyd wasn't muted and you could actually hear his contributions on Bismarck. See this (best full band version, IMO) version from Dallas 2016:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaEK8Di9sZQ

I love what Boyd added. Hopefully they have some violin (or strings) on the "new" version...

I was going to say I think Boyd was pretty large part of this song in 2016. I’m actually shocked that the versions I fell in love were from 2016. I literally thought it was like 2 years ago. Damn I’m getting f’n old.

Would love for Bismarck to be on the new album. I’m getting married in October and I’d love to have it in the playlist somewhere.

Bismarck would be awesome....don’t wanna get the hopes up too much though!

I’d imagine everything on this album recorded in the past year, even if it’s an older song like Bismarck? Reason I ask is just assuming that current band is on all songs full speed ahead with no boyd whatsoever? Would be cool if there is still some roi they have recorded in there somewhere that they can fit into songs cleanly but yeah.

Have any sources mentioned any other older songs having a chance of making the album? I’m still hoping Sugar Will has a chance at this. I remember sources saying it had a chance to make Come Tomorrow but ultimately did not. Maybe they still feel it’s album worthy.

I'm good with that. Jimi Thing is 5 minutes and 57 seconds on Under The Table And Dreaming. It can be over 18 minutes long live. That, of course, is just one example.

Studio is where the core of the song is showcased. Shows are where the jams come to life.

i agree, but i'm worried that we won't get anything over 5 minutes

    i mean windows is like 3:30 - 4, butterfly is > 3

if bismarck is on there i'm worried about it getting the black and bluebird treatment and being like 3 - 4 minutes

not saying that all the songs will for sure be short, just that i understand the worry

It probably depends more on whom the producer is when it comes to that. If we get Glenn Ballard, we're getting 3-4 minute songs. If we get Steve Lillywhite, we're getting 5-8 minute songs.

Not those guys specifically, of course. But producers like them.

This is by FAR my favorite version of this song, I listen to it all the time. I have zero desire for Boyd back in the band but little things like this performance of Bismarck shows that the violin adds so much to their sound.

God I hope the version we get is structured the same way they played it live, with Jeff getting a killer saxophone solo and getting to riff over the last chorus. I couldn't believe when Tim said in this interview that the studio Sam Cop literally had the horn section in the bridge, then took it out in overdubs. That section was one of my favorite parts of the song, and they literally always kept the horn part in the live version. It's like- why would you choose to make your album version less interesting?

As much as I want Bismarck on the album, and especially for it to come back in rotation live, I really want this album to be of a time and place- all recorded in one session and fitting really well together as a unit. After CT, it's something that I feel is important for this next album. If they do use the 2015 Cavallo Bismarck instead of re-recording it, hopefully it won't sound out of place.

I do not think it was re-recorded. Was it tinkered with? I think that’s a fair assumption (I don’t know for sure)

Did they mention any strings on it whatsoever? Seems like one they could throw some background strings on there

Bismarck is the only older song mentioned to me.

Multiple sources have said all new or nearly all new, so I’d expect very few known songs.

The Bismarck that has been described to me has a Jeff solo.

I'll never understand choices like that. The horns in the bridge are the best part of sam cop. regardless, here's to hoping that if bismark makes the cut, it feels like their live shows, not a truncated version.

Daaaaaang. This version is AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing that link.

I really hope this song makes the new album. Out of the new songs they started playing in 2016, Bismarck was the one that stood out the most to me. I remember hearing it for the first time at the Wichita show I attended early in the tour and was blown away; that chorus just soars.

I really wish it was the Cavallo ‘15 Sessions that leaked and not the Batson Sessions. They must be sitting on some gold. I really like Cavallo and what he can bring out of them.

Bismarck being left of CT, more than any other rumored songs, was the biggest disappointment to me. I would love to have an album version of that with the Proudest Monkey-type treatment (end of the album with a long jam).

To me, this album already sounds up my alley. Loved Ocean and the Butterfly and have always loved Bismarck. Those two songs alone have me pumped because it seems kind of like on CT, they wanted a certain sound heading into that album - i remember an interview somewhere where Dave mentioned he wanted to build CT around can’t stop.

So I’m thinking if he now likes to pick a sound and wrap songs into it, I like the sounds of Ocean and Bismarck. Let’s gooooo!

I mean the hope is the whole album was worked up last fall with Evans/Alagia working with Carter and Dave, not the combined approach of CT.....like just anything they feel good enough to put on an album in 2021 you’d hope they’d just go ahead with the 2021 band recording it and making it fresh and current, but that’s just my POV.

Nah, it's just the way anybody outside of the original 5 talks.

I met Jeff Coffin on the street years ago and said I was a big fan of the band, he responded, "I'm a big fan of them too"
