Just so you know, Gomez doubled in his lead off at bat for the season, then scored on Mauer's single...I think we're going to like him.

Yeah... I'll take the 7 innings and 2 earned runs Santana just gave us though. Thanks!

Just going off that comment you had the other day regarding the pitching prospect you ended up keeping, thought I'd attempt to rub it in. Since I'm watching Livan Hernandez pitch the opener, I'll be quiet now.

Edit: Livan has 3 shut-out innings so far and only given up 2 hits, way better than I thought he'd be out the chute.

He puts it on the ground where it's not right at someone, he's going to get on a lot of the time.

Edit: He just stole second, they did a pitch out, and even if the throw had been on target, they still wouldn't have gotten him.

Johan threw a gem, making only 1 mistake. Wright went 2-4 with 3 RBI, the bullpen did their part to protect the lead, the 6 run fourth surly helped. Let's Go Mets, 1-0.

beautiful first game. our pitching beyond johan was very strong, our hitting was explosive in the 4th... i am very thankful for direct tv extra innings and beltran coming through.

Gomez is going to be a terrific player. Don't listen to clods like Keith Law. Gomez is just young and raw, but when he gets it all together with confidence, he will be a star.

Yeah, it's terrible. However, when Alou is in the lineup the Mets 1-5 is pretty damn good (assuming he bats 5th). But if this team wins, it will be all pitching.

The Mets real problem is their depth. They're pretty solid #1-25, but after that, forget it.

Also, their collection of OF talent outside of Beltran....eeyehhh.

don't be surprised if he gets a call-up mid-season...they did it with milledge a few years ago. But with all the depth in the OF, its a slim chance

Milledge already had time in the minors though. Fernando has about one season's worth of ABs in the minors, he's just barely 19 years old, and he's starting the year in Double-A.

I won't completely rule out a mid-season call up because the Mets are capable of doing anything with their farm right now, but it would really surprise me.

so was "eeyehh" a good or bad noise? it seemed like you were saying they don't have outfield prospects.

Outside of Fernando, they don't have any outfield prospects who be of any help in 2008.
