I can be a food snob sometimes too, but junk food/comfort food/greasy bar food....there will always be a place for those things. Sometimes you just want a hotdog.

Our Home Depot has (well, had...cause Covid) a Hebrew National stand right outside the store. I’d say once a month I’d be there during lunch and treat myself to a dog out of convenience, and was always delish. He had just about any toppings you could possibly want on a dog. Hope he makes it back someday.

Of course it’s not better than a steak or lobster, but I’m not eating such things at 12:30 pm on a Tuesday.

Ive lived in Chicago over 10 years, and I dont know that ive ever looked into the ketchup thing before.

I found this:

Jimmy Faruggia, who opened Jimmy's Red Hots in 1954 on the west side, believed ketchup was used to cover up the rotten taste of spoiled meat. He maintained his hot dogs were too fresh to be covered up – and Jimmy's has never offered ketchup since it opened.

as well as the fact that the Chicago dog (yellow mustard, chopped onions, sweet pickle relish, tomato slices, sport peppers, a dill pickle spear, and a sprinkling of celery salt) is the "perfect blend of flavor" and ketchup isnt in the equation.


Anyway...in my experience no one cares if you use ketchup. I do sometimes. I feel like the no ketchup thing is more of a joke at this point

The only thing food-wise that I might patronize someone about is eating finger foods with a fork and knife. I've seen people cutting meat off their bone-in wings before. I still have a little PTSD from that sight.

This is like the Costco dogs. They're still doing them but they'll only give you a little tub of ketchup and mustard if you want it, so currently no relish or onions.
