Oh yeah, I definitely see (as I stated) why the AR has been singled out.
As for renewing the AWB call me skeptical, it did not do all that much when it passed in 1994 and I doubt it would do much today, probably less since more of the weapons on the market are capable of not being classified as an 'assault rifle' by simple action of removing a scope or foregrip. Also worth pointing out is that many more are out in public today than back then and good luck getting people to voluntarily give something away that they paid over a grand for.
I do not mean this as any sort of comparison really but since I am constantly told that it would be impossible to round up and deport the 12 million illegals but somehow magically we could round up and confiscate the 10-15 million (no one has exact figures for how many of these weapons are owned in the US) 'assault rifles' in the US - does that make any sense to you. Call me crazy but if I was a LEO would much rather try to arrest an illegal who may or may not be armed than try and take a semi-automatic weapon from someone you know is armed and in many cases skilled in using that weapon.
