I never understood the mindset of being resigned to having a car payment.

Take care of your cars, do the proper maintenance, and with a little luck that doesn't have to be the case.

These comments made generally speaking about leases. Your post only reminded me of my thoughts on the subject.
We leased her Edge back in '07 cause we had just bought this house. She was pregnant with number 2 so she needed a bigger car for the 2 car seats, double stroller, etc. Plus, she had an ultima and it was not good in the bad weather and new house is not in a flat area. We didn't have the money to make a down payment and/or make the payment reasonable so we leased that car.

Last year, we wanted to buy and intended to do so. My dad, who sells Fords, convinced me otherwise. He advised I go with the short lease and then buy the car when the lease is up. Based the dollar difference between buying and leasing last year and what the price will be when the lease is up, he felt we should wait and buy it when lease is up. We'd have a lot more in our pockets for the next few years. She only puts like 5-6K a year driving around town and the car will have low miles with the lower price to buy it when the lease is up and will be close to brand new. He thought it was the best way to go. He felt pretty strong about it.

Hope my car lasts forever. Been paid for for about 5 years now and it will suck when I have to replace it. T

Needless to say, I need a new car. Any suggestions? Was thinking about a 07-Present Mustang, Saab, VW Jetta, or something like a Ford Edge (likely too expensive) or Escape.
I had a 98 CL. Loved that car. Up until the Lexus I just bought, definitely my favorite car I've driven.

95 Jeep Cherokee, as of Monday, DMB willing.

    I've been driving around either a 00 Chevy S-10 that I borrow, or a 92 Ford F-150, also borrowed.

I want my next vehicle to be a Jeep. However, we just paid off my wife's car so we are now car payment free. I want to try to get to next summer without the expense... we'll see. I really like the Compass, but it's the smallest in their line... so I don't know.

Liberty's are great and practical. I hit a patch of black ice on the highway a couple of years ago hit a pole head on. Dented the front end of my car but walked away without a bump or a scratch. Only problem I've ever had with it is it eats up gas.

Those old school Legends are so nice

With me having the late 90s CL, I am definitely a fan of Acura in the 90s. Too bad their cars now look like Saturns.

Hondas are the shit. My 01 has 179K, also with an oil leak, and I just got 28mpg on my last 2 tanks. Only problems it has other than the oil leak is the dome light doesn't turn on when the driver side door opens and the backlight on the odometer doesn't work.

DMB = God? Or is it dependent on dmb tickets.

EDIT: Gets about 22 in the city and 28 on the highway. It really is the ultimate driving machine. I've never had so much fun driving a car.

I kinda wish I would have test drove an Audi but I didn't like how they purposely placed the A4 and S4 below/above the performance/price of the 335. S4 is slightly faster than a 335 I believe but for that much more cash you might as well buy an M3 which would destroy the S4.

a 07 335i was my previous car. i did test drive the A4/S4. i liked the 335i more, and think it's faster/has more torque. I also agree on the M3 sentiment. that said, with the 335i you are getting 80% of the M3 power, for 50-60% of the cost. i didn't mind that trade off.
i miss that car...but it had no room in the back for the two car seats back there now.
