I don't understand hate for YMDT closing sets. I guess I wouldn't want it closing the whole show since only a select few songs can really make that work, but closing the main set in WPB last year was good. It's powerful, long but it doesn't drag on, every band member has a big role in it and I just really enjoy the song. Maybe since my other main set closer was Burning Down The House with the Ladies it makes YMDT look great in comparison.

I saw it close the encore in Pelham with Bob Law before it. Unique encore and I thought it was great. In Atlanta, it closed the main set and the encore was Ants Marching > Halloween. Flawless. Two great YMDT performances.

2004 is a semi-overrated tour, there are plenty of good/great shows, but I just never felt the same love for it. The 2004 songs are pretty wishy washy too, sometimes they were great but sometimes they were just not very good.

This may not be unpopular, but 2003 might be my favorite tour all-time. I think it was the peak as far as variety, unpredictability and quality setlists converging. Lots of rarities along with classics, you never knew what you were going to get on a given night, and pre-2005 so there were almost no duds.

My only beef with 03 is that for the first 1/3 of the tour Boyd was just awful, and by the time he got better the rare stuff went away for the most part.

I absolutely see Rashawn as a useless piece to this band. He creates a horns "section" and doesn't allow Jeff to have the free roam as a musician that he should. The sax parts of even some of DMBs classic songs are now structured and redundant. I wish we could see Jeff have room to breathe on his own (ex. Flecktones) because he is truly a very talented musician.

Also, not necessarily unpopular but Tim Reynolds can take 2017 off. The rest of the band can tour. He overplays and dominates WAY too much of the "DMB sound" these days. Not mention replaces Boyd and Jeff on solos for almost everything (ex. warehouse, #41, Crush etc.)

I fully agree with the bolded, Im not sure what happened since the caravan year of 2011, but Jeff hasnt had any free roam in the last 5 years, everything sounds canned and he doesnt seem to solo.

With that said, it is well documented Rashawn is far from useless. He is the musical orchestrator for the band, he knows everyone's queues and parts. While he is most definitely a factor in the way they sound the way they do today, he is far from "useless".

I dont really understand the complaint with "canned horn parts" as if its some new thing. Sure Roi played more sax solos than jeff does now, but its not like he was making up melodies on the spot every night. That sort of thing really haddnt been prevalent since the early 90s.

If anything the horns make more unique "canned horn lines" every night, than Roi made free flowing melodies.

Stay is a Top 10 song for me. Although admittedly that has to do with personal sentimental reasons than anything else.
