Old DMB doesn't - who knows about this newest version of DMB.
It's taken me a long time (longer than it probably should've) to realize that this isn't the "DMB" that I've had in my head the last 29 years. For the lack of a better word, I've been in "denial". It sounds dumb or dramatic, but it's true.
(this isn't a negative post - I'm not sh*tting on the band at ALL)
There have been lots of these type of posts before, but it really clicked with me the last few days - those days of Dave and band are long gone. The main players of the jammed out solos on studio albums have either left the band or are no longer living.
There's always talk of how the band has evolved into DMB 3.0, 4.0, blah, blah blah...only for people to get upset when they aren't producing material that lives up to the original "DMB".
They can still jam out at live shows - they're all amazing musicians - but that isn't what they "are" anymore as a band at their core. As 2023 DMB. Instead of creating 6-8 minute songs that ebb and flow on an album, they do something more like we're going to hear on 5/19...and like we've been hearing the last album or so.
This is what they are now. Once you accept that and stop trying to rewind time to the glory days of DMB, you start to really appreciate things and get excited for new things that this band produces.
Just my 2 cents.
