I would agree with the 02 sound, but not necessarily from the Some Devil era. More of the Loving Wings, Gravedigger realm. I know Gravedigger is on Some Devil, but to me it's the most DMB sounding song on that record.

Bismarck is just a great classic sounding DMB song. It's so obvious that is exactly why it's been scrapped. I think Dave is done with the DMB of old and only plays classics to appease the fans.

Has there ever been a SPAC blanket (or any venue specific blankets) similar to this?

Why do they not have Bela guest more often? He and the Flecktones used to be all over the place with the band and now they’ve been missing for quite a long time.

They had them on the bill for the Gorge in 2020. I had tickets too, was hoping the flecktones would come out and jam on 41. Then Covid happened :/

Still hope they book them at the Gorge again, or at least one of Bela’s solo projects.

I was talking about the same exact thing at late Friday night, after MSG N1, at the bar of the hotel, to a woman, DMBfamily-stylish, 150+ shows seen.
The only comment she made about my wish of seeing Béla with DMB again was: “he’s such a nerd”. And everybody around laughed.

Bela most likely doesn’t want to bother trying to find space between Rashawn squealing, squeaking and blaring away all night.

Who are Dave's contemporaries? Are there any musicians right now on the same level as Dave Matthews that are also in the same age and career positioning.

Trey is an obvious choice, and Dave has a good relationship with him from the outside looking yet. What other well-known or unknown musicians with you rank as Dave's contemporaries.

It's cliche, but Mayer/Dead & Co is an easy comparison

i think jeff switching to DMB caused the flecktones to kind of break up

The saddest thing was having the 2020 Gorge weekend cancelled when Bela was slated to be the opener. What might have been that weekend.

Flecktones haven’t split up. They still tour but lately Bela has been focused on his Bluegrass work. Jeff Coffin wasn’t even an original member of the Flecktones. Howard Levy left the band and they got Jeff to replace him and then when Coffin left Howard Levy rejoined.

Agreen 100% Bela has been on Bluegrass side and prior to Chick Correa's passing had a run of shows and Victor Wooten has been exploring time with his bass extremes project and last year had some show with his family band. But the band had been playing pre pandemic well past Jeff going to DMB so Jeff leaving isn't even close to being a factor lol.

The Providence Civic Center opened 50 years ago this month. Here's the setlist from the last time that DMB played that arena (changed names to Dunkin Donuts Center and Amica Mutual Arena):

Carter isn't keeping Dave or the rest of the band on track in terms of how songs go when they rehearse, other band members parts, changing jams (the few times they do).

RR has taken over that, and certainly directs the band on stage now too. You can watch him and Stefan, Dave checking him for cues, Buddy relying on him for changes. RR knows EVERYONE's parts and all the songs inside and out. I'm sure the band is still a democracy with Dave in charge. But my guess is when Dave wants to bring an old song back, or change a jam, cut a jam, he relies on RR to get the others on the same page.
100% agree. I think Rashawn has been in that role in the studio too when it comes to ideas for the music/arrangements. I’m pretty sure the way the WATM outro was cut/edited from ‘21 to ‘22 was Rashawn’s doing as well (assuming that happened bc the record label wanted it shortened).

I was at that very show. It was a fantastic one. Plus Robert Randolph and the Family Band opened, so it was a great time right out of the gate. I saw them in Providence in 2000 and in 2002. It was really a great place to see DMB.

i buy posters because of how the posters look, not because of how the show was. i've been to great shows that had crap posters that i have never wanted to buy. good songs don't make ugly pictures prettier to look at.

98 really rocks. Tim's playing is so much better. Maceo Parker on WWYS. Rutman and Victor on the Maker, Roi's wah effect on Jimi, Boyd's plucking solo in Watchtower. Such a great show.
