I think the only track recorded in 2018 was That Girl is You, you talking about the 2015 session tracks? I agree that those songs sound great, while the rest of the album is a mixed bag. She also sounds good in my opinion. Definitley excited for the new album, I think it'll be great based on the 4 newer songs we've heard so far.

Forgot about When I'm Weary, that was recorded in 2018. And actually, looks like TGIY was 2017

I didn't realize there were 2015 sessions. It's insane to me how many studio sessions this band has scrapped : I just meant the newer songs. Cop, BnBBird, VITR, etc.

Yeah agreed, those songs sound great

The way I understand, the album was worked on for a number of years starting in 2015: (or 2006 kinda)

2006: Idea of You, Come On, Can't Stop (recorded with Batson, resurrected around 2017 and worked on with Batson and co.)

2015: Sam Cop, Again and Again, Black&Blue Bird, Virginia, Here On Out, Bkdkdkdd (recorded wth Rob Cavallo, likely worked on throughout 2017/2018 to remove the violin from the tracks, also added Buddy's keys on B&BB)

2016: She (written and recorded with Alagia, worked on in 2017/2018 with Batson)

2017: Do You Remember (Alagia), That Girl is You (Evans, Dave recorded solo)

2018: When I'm Weary, Come Tomorrow (Batson, the last two songs added to the album - my pure speculation and bitterness says these are the two songs that replaced Bismarck and Death on the High Seas...)

What does the band do when nature calls on stage?? I mean 30 years of live shows you know it’s happened a few times.. do you think they just poop their pants and make the other members deal with it??

I believe Come Tomorrow was also an idea from the 2006 sessions, just less far along.

Based on some of the horn parts Rashawn wrote for the other 2014/2015 Cavallo tracks, I REALLY wish we got to hear that album as it was. Before they stripped it for CT. Tim mentioned that the bridge horn-breakdown was originally in Sam Cop, then they axed it and told him to solo in it. THEN, as if they knew it sounded better in the song, continued to play it live. Meanwhile they keep the old drum pattern on Idea of You and then Carter tries to revert back to that version live. Why do they make bad decisions like this. WHY.

If Dave would have written real verses for Be Yourself and a real bridge for Plastic Girl, it could have been a very special album. Not to mention other songs that clearly must have been fully written but that we've never heard.

ALL that being said, as much as I still believe Cavallo is the best man for the job, I'm really anxious to hear this upcoming album. Seems like it was produced by Alagia, so it'll be interesting to hear his chance to properly produce a full album from scratch. I hope they really utilized the benefits of the studio and deliver a deeply layered and strong record.

I think it might've happened last week. Rye Whiskey was added to the setlist Fiddler's N2-

    http://dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSet.as...164&where=2021

I'm not sure if anyone left the stage during the song, but Buddy, Jeff, and Rashawn don't play on it.

Here's another example, Singing From The Windows added midset-

    http://dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSet.as...164&where=2021

And it seems Carter left the stage-

    https://youtu.be/UavcdowXMFU

And there's been lots of other times when Dave would randomly add a solo song in the middle of the show. I think whenever he does that, nature calls for someone lol.

What's the most shows any fan has seen? Heard Mr. 400 on Grey St. Pod, saw someone in the ticket drop at 464, would love to hear if any fan has seen 500+?

...I'm over here just tryna hit 50

that does make sense. i'm surprised it hasn't happened more often. i know dave just sweats everything out, but the others aren't usually working as hard (besides carter), but not enough down time to actually leave the stage.

what i'm even more surprised about is that dave can sing and never have a random sneeze, yawn, or anything else come up and interrupt a song.

i would imagine someone has hit 500. from the few people i've talked to or read about who have crazy high numbers, they all seem to have been around cville in the early days when they could see the band every week at flood zone and trax. they easily could hit 100+ just during those few years alone. then add in the large amount of shows that the east coast, especially the northeast, gets. it wouldn't be difficult to hit 10-20 shows a year. average 10 shows over the next 25 years (which isn't really THAT hard to do), and thats another 250 to add to the cville days.

It has two tracks (You are my Sanity, Come and See) which I’ve never heard before.
You Are My Sanity is a Tim track, Dave does introduce it though.

The Come and See track is actually Get in Line from 1994-11-20.

Is there a more versatile song in the band’s catalog for a live setting than Warehouse? Works as an opener, in the middle of a set, set closer, encore closer, and everywhere in between. Can’t think of a single situation where that song would feel out of place.

Fucking great songs like Warehouse work anywhere in the set. The Stone is another one that comes to mind.

Warehouse, Nancies, The Stone, Drive In Drive Out, Ants, Billies, Too Much, The Last Stop, Bartender, Lie In Our Graves, What You Are...

It's almost like their best songs work at any point of the set because they are... wait for it... great songs.

Just wish Dave would figure this out.

Forgot to mention Two Step and Rapunzel in that list as well.

It has been discussed to death, but keeping the same songs that were all played this past tour but rearranging their placements from night to night would keep things so much more fresh.

Seeing a JTR E2 spot, or an Ants opener with the elongated snare intro like on RTT, or FishTender to close out the main set?

Oh, or a Crush opener? There is so many fun things they could do, but they continue to settle into a tired formula. It would be different if they were like The Stones or Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers where it is known that they are going to play "the hits" and there are only a few set slots that have variables, but that has never been who this band is.

Just frustrating to know that it wouldn't take a ton of effort to really shake things up, but they continue to sit on their hands.

Encores could be better, there is nothing from the last couple decades of this band that would suggest Dreaming Tree - Two Step - Ants is likely

Wasn't the improv/jam in LT26 (that ended up cut from the official release) a potty break bit for someone to run and do their business?

Just frustrating to know that it wouldn't take a ton of effort to really shake things up, but they continue to sit on their hands.
No you don't understand as long as they play Pig, YNK, and Grace in regular rotation all these sins are forgiven. The nerve of you to bring up such a simple way to freshen up the sets just be grateful for what you have been given in the '21 tour. Grey Street is a great closer... who cares you have better odds of hitting a jackpot than it NOT being the set closer at any given show you go to this tour.

Now sit down and listen to your 5th Sister/SMLAM encore of the tour and be grateful.

I actually kinda like this D&T Cornbread from the Gorge, not usually a song I'd comment on but found this performance enjoyable

Why the hell wasn’t Stand Up the Iraq war protest album it seems like it was intended to be? Many of the songs contain lyrical lines that would indicate the song sketches initially were geared towards speaking to the state of the county/world, and Dave went on to fill in the gaps with self-defeating romantic platitudes. Hell, the title track is literally asking for verse lyrics to match. And somehow it’s about a woman. His politics called for it. The times called for it. It makes no goddamn sense.

Singing from the windows should have been played once or maybe a few times during 2020 and then shelved. I remember listening to it on the pay it forward broadcast, it was a nice little song we were just starting to hunker down for the pandemic and listening to it over livestream we realized might be the only way we hear music for a while and it resonated with me. The song going on to be played to death in the tour following just cheapens it a bit. I realize COVID is still a major issue but I hope Dave realizes the lyrics "when the war is over..." are eventually going to look pretty damn stupid if he keeps singing that song.

I think I remember Dave even mentioning introducing the song saying "I've never played this, I don't really know if I am even going to play it again..." would've been a cool little thing to do.
