No DMB song should be over 10 minutes long.

I think Dave singing it with an unnatural country twang is what is annoying

Other than being overplayed, I don’t get why Sister gets so much hate.

Damn, I’ve been thinking that while it may not be as good, it’s a lot closer to the 04 versions than it was in 10 and 18. Much more control and better tempo this summer.

Now it is. Not in '04. Now in general, for the majority of songs, the screaming is not as authentic, the scatting seems forced et al.

I don't understand how anyone who thinks the third verse somehow makes this song worse or that Grey Street is otherwise a "tired" song still goes to DMB concerts. When I think of the songs that are truly great in DMB's catalogue, it's the songs that build to crescendos, whether mid-stream or at the end of the song. I'm not saying Grey Street is their single best song, but it probably exemplifies this "crescendo" technique more any other tune. Each chorus gets an additional section culminated with the "kicking out all the windows" piece. Skipping straight to the crescendo after the second verse misses the buildup. And that is before even discussing how the song is a dark story that begs for that third verse to finish the downward spiral.

I would accept arguments that the LWS version is even better (I prefer the Busted Stuff crescendo but that's my opinion), but I really believe anyone that would prefer Grey Street shorter without the third verse perhaps has just run their course with DMB. I've believed that this has been the single most perplexing live choice of the band over the last 20 years and its nice to see it rectified (btw, runners-up for perplexing calls have been to drop the one sweet world intro, to not have Tim play exclusively acoustic, to not use PNP into songs other than Rapunzel except for two times, to not re-work Spotlight's lyrics, and to never once try to do a Hello Again-->Halloween segue from the Hello Again drum solo breakdown, which I maintain would be perfection)

So I asked my gf (she's not a DMB fan) to listen to WATM. I don't like the song, she said "maybe not the greatest one, but still good, something different". Then I played Bismarck saying "that's the most new oldschool DMB song", and she was like: "nothing special, sounds the same like everything else".

So maybe we, the hardcore fans, are still in the past and waiting for something that probably never happen?

Isn't the obvious point to be made here is that hardcores can discern a meh 4.0 song from a new old-school song while other people can't. Of course it would sound the same to her. Our nuanced ability to discern quality old school DMB from shit masquerading as DMB has been honed since the mid nineties.

Dave's greatest songwriting achievement: writing all of Everyday in two weeks. (I'm serious, here, but not sure what kind of existing material was brought to the sessions by Dave and Ballard).

Love it. The end is so blissful to listen to and I have never understood how a die hard DMB fan doesn’t enjoy it more for that jam. It felt very ”old school” DMB when Boyd was still in the band and you could hear him. The way his line, the horns, the keys, all of it blended so beautifully like they played in the old days.

It does. The lyrics sound very new DMB, but the music is very old school. Lyrics might kill it for a die hard.

The 3-6-19 Munich version that was on the last WH disc is one of the best DMB performances from the last five years. Buddy's jazz playing and the Grazing in the Grass interpolation in the outro are perfection. Mercy's jam is listless and monotonous when Dave is on the keys, but the version they played with Buddy was amazing. Mercy has so much potential now that they have a real pianist who can improvise; I hope they bring it back this summer.

YMDT is awesome, but Dave's gotten lazy with the end scat/improv part at the end. The Wrigley version is a good example of how good that part can be.

Yes, Sniper, I love that too. 03.06.2019 is my favorite version of the song. It is a slow, emotional, crescendo, then, at minute 4, it suddenly changes, due mostly to Buddy improvisation. They can do whatever they want with this track, it leaves so much space for creativity. Exactly the opposite of most of BW stuff.

Haha i agree with some of this, at least lyrical wise-

Some of the lyrics are so beautifully written like on Space Between/ So right/ fool to think- its hard to believe it was that quick.

However the music you can tell only took 2 weeks cause, well- space between is really only two chords, so right was the monkey man chords, everyday was #36, Dreams of our Fathers uses little thing chords, etc

Apart from hearing it at a show with rain, I really don't understand the hype with JTR. Frankly, apart from its historic rarity, it kinda bores me when I hear it.
