He's using a Boss looping machine. You hit the pedal, play something, hit it again and it will loop what you just played. That allows you to play over that loop.

Check out videos of Ed Sheeran live. He is a master of it and is the first mainstream artist that I've seen use it live. He spent 6+ months holed up at home learning it and mastering it... his one man shows are incredible and he headlines stadiums with just the loop pedal, an acoustic guitar, and then one electric guitar for one song.

I enjoyed watching that show, but there’s something about some of those 96 shows that don’t do it for me. The Two Steps sound kind of sloppy to me, Crash is still finding its way. I don’t know, to each their own. It’s very obvious to me what happened. They went from really tight in 95 when things were like “hey, we might take off” to 96 “holy shit we just blew up”. How can you not play with that raw intensity? I get it, but i prefer other years. They were also probably pretty drained that year. Lot going on all at once. Its still wicked nostalgic to watch a show like that. Feels like a lifetime ago to think about when Crash came out.

And yet for some it’s uplifting, I think everyone kind of handles and deals with tragedy differently. It’s such a sad day and to hear them persevere through it and perform so well is inspiring and so I’m glad that we have it in pro audio to have and to listen to. That fighting through the pain is something that resonates with me, and I’m inspired that they mustered up the strength to even perform that night. Cant imagine how much it hurts for fonz though so I totally get it.

Band or their management definitely signs off on these so SOMEONE signed off on mixing and getting this ready for release.

Management definitely approves everything but I highly doubt anyone is bothering band members with this type of thing. What would that email even look like? "Hey Stefan, will you give permission for Sirius to play a show you guys played in South Caroline 26 years ago this Friday night? Can you jog your memory and let us know if that gig is up to snuff? Do you want to listen to the recording before we play it? You want me to send you a DMBAlmanac link with the setlist? Do you think the Christmas Song and Satellite encore is strong enough for a radio broadcast?"

Haven't several people noted that Dave was flummoxed when they asked him to sign a Live Trax cd and he had no idea that shit was being released? I'm sure someone in the DMB camp is monitoring things so Sirius doesn't play any embarrassing shows were Dave's voice is completely fucking shot but I doubt Carter is taking time in-between playing golf and fucking is new young fiancé to advise Sirius on what 20-year old gigs they should be playing on the radio.
