Re: Dave Matthews Band to Launch Limited-Run SiriusXM Channel
So they are likely given the source separated into tracks by DMB, or maybe they do it themselves. But then Sirius normalizes each track individually. So a song like Grey Street gets boosted a little, maybe none at all, but then something like Let You Down or Christmas Song gets boosted a lot. It provides even volume on all tracks for air. If you listen to the raw 12/27/96 or 8/19/08, you hear the jumps in volume at the track markers for several songs. It's especially annoying with live shows because it's while the crowd is cheering, so it can be jarring to your listen.
My friend identified all the track markings for the show, found middle level, and brought all songs back in line with the rest of the show so it's a smooth listening experience like a Live Trax. For this particular one, the Sirius intro is on top of Grey Street opener, so he used the show intro from the audience tape and cut the Sirius intro and spliced the AUD intro. He also had to replace the opening four notes on Carter's hi-hat for Grey Street. But you'd never know it if I didn't just tell you.
