Re: Random dmb thoughts that don't need their own thread

I listen to this version of Kind Intentions (soundcheck, 2/5/94) and wonder why it never made to the stage. Such a beautiful melody

There was a Seek Up sometime in the past few 10 years, and I want to say it was from Alpine, where Dave hit every single wail perfectly. It was probably the first time he had hit every one so cleanly since the early 2000's, and I remember people talking about it on here for quite awhile afterwards. I can't for the life of me remember the year though, but I am 90 percent certain it was Alpine. Anyone?

Does anyone know how to get the Cali interviews at this ants page?

    https://www.antsmarching.org/downloads/cali.php

Apparently, many of the links don’t work, I get very small MP3s that I cannot play.

I was shuffling a bunch of Dave and Tim songs and #27 from the Vegas bonus disc came up. It's not a song I listen to often, but I really enjoyed hearing it for the first time in a while.

I think the band overall just wasn't feeling it. Through the end of the first verse the sum effect of all parts was golden, but after that it starts to wander off a bit too much.

I'm more curious about why "Dressed In Black" and "Light Lift Me Up" never made it to the stage. Both had great potential and were helping to temper post-Everyday malaise when they started making the rounds, and then poof!

If they socially distance indoor arenas for the NBA/NCAA now, can't we get a fall/winter arena tour following the same guidelines?

I guess, just trying to weasel some positives out of seeing a move towards fans in arenas.

Re: Random dmb thoughts that don't need their own thread

I hear a lot of similarities between "Kind Intentions" and "Me and Her". Not just the same key and basically the same chords, but also Boyd's approach. Besides the two songs sounding similar, there's a couple other things that make the two songs seem one in the same to me.

    1. The infamous Kind Intentions soundcheck jam from 2.5.94 was played at the Georgia Theater in Athens, GA. The very next time the band played at the Georgia Theater in Athens (April 5th and 6th of 1994) they played this song dubbed "Me and Her" by the fans. As stated earlier, I think the songs sound remarkably similar, although some differences.

    2. Kind Intentions disappeared after that and was only teased once more in 2001.

So it seems possible to me that after this soundcheck from Athens got out into circulation, the band shortened the song up and played it live the next time they were in Athens as a nod to the tape. The song then died shortly after, seeing how there aren't any other examples of soundchecks or performances of either Kind Intentions or Me and Her after April of '94.

This is just a theory, the two songs could be entirely unrelated and it could just be coincidence.

    LT 15?

Although that was not in the last 10 years, that might be it. It's a great version. The only other Seek Ups at Alpine were in 2012, 2015, and 2019. Don't think it's any of those that you would be referring to.

I normally don't go for 2006 DMB stuff, but I was listening to SPAC 6-17-06 this morning, and it is quite a nice show. The songs tended to drag that year, and Dave's voice was pretty awful, but this show has the "energy", the setlist is great, and Dave's vocals aren't bad for '06. I was going to post this in the "I Know....I Know...Next Live Trax" thread, but honestly this Eric Naylor tape is so good that I wouldn't even see a reason to have it released as a Live Trax.

I enjoyed that weekend immensely, fantastic shows with three tracks officially released. 6/28 was also a great show and I felt they were really on a roll, especialy with the new material, until Fenway. Dave's voice was definitely an issue from the break on but there were indeed some great performances with Charlottesville being a solid tour finale.

Nice, that's cool that you were there for the SPAC shows! Even N1 looks pretty good, and I see that Crumbo taped it, so I will likely check it out as well!

I saw them a week later at Nissan, and the setlist wasn't the best, although we did get a nice Pig > Stay encore.

I am quite familiar with the 6/28 show and remember downloading it back in 2006. That run of Raven, Say Goodbye, Nancies > Warehouse > Typical, Billies, and JTR is legendary!

My favorite taper (no offense to any of the others, love you all). He pulled some phenomenal stuff in the tri state area back in the early 00s.

No seeders for that. Would you share this tape? Every SPAC has something special. This has also Vusi Mahlasela on Everyday

This concert from almost 30 years ago at a school auditorium is so charming and badass. So funny seeing Fonzy to the left of Dave instead of right of Dave when facing him.

Not sure if anyone else saw this, but Ruston Kelly covered "Crash Into Me" on his live-stream show the other night. Even worked in the "Dixie Chicken" interpolation. Pretty cool.

I was just listening to Tripping Billies from the Gorge 2002 earlier. What a great live track. I love how the crowd erupts as soon as Boyd’s solo is over.

Wow, the infamous Roseland '95 show with the Trey and Popper "Watchtower" happened 26 years ago today! I think it was summer of '96, when I was working at an athletic center, that one of my co-workers made me a few cassette tapes full of his favorite DMB live performances. I had never heard any DMB live stuff before, and remember being blown away by the Watchtower and Say Goodbye from this particular show, as well as #36 from Burlington (1/26/95). Hard to believe these iconic performances have so much age on them, but they are certainly aging gracefully!
