I thought about flying out to Red Rocks, but when I looked up that date I noticed that it fell on a Tuesday. I'd be all over that show if it was on a weekend.

Yea, the weeknight shows are tough. Actually surprised this show still has tickets left, but maybe I'm overestimating their draw.

I’m very, very excited. They have been one of my top desired bands to see live for probably nearly as long as I have been listening to them.

The only thing I semi-regret about Homecoming is that I didn't get a chance to see Julien Baker. Even though it had the smallest layout of any festival I've attended, I just couldn't justify giving up the primo spot I'd earned by sticking around the West Stage for the entire run of Lord Huron-The Breeders-Father John Misty leading up to The National.
I don't mean to rub it in but you missed a damn good one. Julien was fantastic, especially considering the ambience of the performance, with the sun setting, etc. It was just her and her guitar (a little distorted piano for effect) and the crowd was super respectful of the quietness / tenderness of her performance. Bone chilling! (She's also a total babe!)

If the Red Rocks show had only been like a few days later on the weekend, I would've had a hell of a trip. Doing our honeymoon in Maui for a week then Napa Valley for a few days until 10/4. Would've loved to gone from Cali to RR for that weekend. Major first world problems

Not trying to bash the boys, but do they do basically the same set every night except when they do the Boxer straight through thing? I haven't analyzed closely enough, just seems like every set is the same when they pop up on facebook.

Since they aren't "that" type of live band for me, I don't even care, just something I'm curious about.

Typically yes. They have been sprinkling in a few rarites this tour though. But even those tend to be repeated.

    Re: The National

Reading a Frightened Rabbit article, found this interesting blurb about Aaron Dessner producing their last album:

The band co-produced that one with Aaron Dessner of The National. Did you feel like using someone who’s known for more lush productions made you head in that direction?
I think Aaron naturally pulled us in his direction. But I was willing to go there! I wanted to go there! I’m a really big fan of The National. Maybe you don’t want to be kind of in awe of the person who’s making your record. Maybe it makes the discussions a little more difficult to have. “You’ve done all this cool shit, you’re probably right!” There are probably times when I should have stepped in. But that’s not his fault. At the same time, he was probably most excited by songs like “Die Like a Rich Boy” as well. So maybe we went in with songs thinking that we’d sound a little bit like The National, because I fucking love that sound, and he was second-guessing it, too. There was a little bit of miscommunication there, I think, but all in all I’m pretty happy with it. The nice thing about that album is I know that we don’t want to make it again. We can move on, having discovered what we want from our records going forward.

Ya I really wanna see them I hope they do.

I got a chance to see them last winter in Buffalo at a small venue- which made it super intimate and awesome, but it was a smaller acoustic set without the drums.

Would love to see them full band, haven't crossed the border yet to see them and thinking I may have to some time

They are playing in Toronto in August along with Julien Baker and Father John Misty.

I finally listened to this. I really wish some of these were given lyrics and turned into finished songs, or at least finished demos with vocals.

Yeah. Half is leftover Sleep Well Beast stuff that didn’t fit but they liked and the rest is brand new.

    Re: The National

    Maybe I take that back.

Another highlight of the evening comes with the airing of new track ‘Light Years’, showcasing the band at their most sombre and esoteric. Musically, they tell us that progress on their next album is well beyond the halfway point of completion, and is just awaiting rewrites and tweaking from Berninger. Partly made up of material from the ‘Sleep Well Beast’ sessions and partly something entirely different, album number eight is currently driven by a certain ‘looseness’ and ‘an energy that’s evaded us in the past’, says Bryce. “‘Sleep Well Beast’ still feels like it’s going somewhere – it hasn’t yet arrived completely to me,” admits Aaron.

Bryan meanwhile, describes their next effort as a “departure record” – and then some. “It’s going to be more than just a record,” he continues. “The other material that’s accompanying it is basically inspiring the record. It’s a collaborative project. I’ve said too much already…

“It’s not a big deal, it’s just different to everything else we’ve done. There’s a new element to it. That’s why Matt is rewriting everything.”
