The Apple Thread - Gather round.

i don't believe there's a general apple thread yet, which is amazing. this thread is for everything apple, OSX, iOS, MacBook, iMac, iPhone, iPad, AppleTV... whatever.

i just recently updated to Mountain Lion and realized that it natively uses AirPlay to your AppleTV2 or 3. no jailbreak or apps required.

http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/07...rparrot-fight/

this is huge. now i can stream everything from my drobo over to surround sound or the tv wirelessly. downloaded movies, my entire live show flac/shn archive from the drobo, family photos from the drobo... this is awesome.

I love my iPod Touch and iPod Nano. I'm very tempted to get the newest Touch, but I'll probably hold off. But that device, is one of the coolest things I've ever owned.

I also have a MacBook, which is very nice. What does everyone use to clean their screens, and the keyboard area?

Went apple picking over the weekend and got some apple cider. We're thinking about sprucing it up by biolimg it with some cinnamon sticks, cloves, cardamom, and almonds in cheese cloth.

Then back into the jug, ready for some brandy as needed.

Golden delicious apples really are delicious.

Now see, thats too much IMO. The fewer the ingredients, the better. Keep it simple.

Because of the drought, apples are suppose to be expensive this year. I plan on going picking soon and probably making some pie.

So happy someone else made a general Apple thread.... I suggested it awhile back in one of the iPhone or MacBook threads and people called me crazy.

Glad you discovered the Airplay functionality with Mountain Lion, definitely a sweet feature.

Golden Delicious are my favorite. Granny Smith are decent substitutes. Red apples just arent that great to me. Glad its caramel apple and bobbing for apple season. Also, sour apple suckers are tasty too.

I own apple products because thats what my school used and i purchased through tuition, and I have an iphone form work, but can some one tell me why apple "owns so hard"?

Japs have thought and implemented way better stuff so far then apple. I appreciate the design of my apple products, but they are nothing much and not at all revolutionary...

basically, because the ecosystem they have set up, just works. everything crosses platforms/hardware and plays nice together... to the point a first grader or 80 year old can do it.

as i mentioned in my first post, i've been trying to stream stuff from my drobo, wired to my ps3 for over a year. i even tried installing apps on to the drobo that were supposed to work, but never did/or i couldn't figure it out.

then all of a sudden, apple releases Mountain Lion, and i can suddenly mirror everything from my macbook to my 50" plasma via the appletv2 wirelessly.

that means, i have 10TB of external hard drive space where i have all my movies, pics, music, basically my entire life in digital and i can now put it to my surround sound receiver/tv by using my laptop sitting across the room in my comfy chair. it's amazing.

^ basically what justink said is why i continue to buy apple products. with almost no set up, i can start a spreadsheet for work on my imac, pick up where i left off on my ipad, do some more on my iphone when im on the road, and use my macbook pro to finish it up. it couldnt be easier.

everything apple makes, simply just works. take it out of the box, turn it on, and it works.

And they have AWESOME customer service, too. Never had a problem at the genius bar.

I'm not saying I do not love OSX, i think its very well implemented. Its just annoyuing to see people not work and wait in line for 2 days to buy a phone that is completly average.

I do enjoy using icloud though. Messaging on the iphone and laptop is sweet as well as itunes match. I need to buy a second laptop and the retina mbp is pretty appealing, its just the price of it, doesn't really reflect what in its casing.

because apple products are more than the product, especially if you have other apple products. it's the whole experience. Sure, the Galaxy s3 is cheaper or better by itself, but if you have a mac it can all sync seamlessly and easily.

I wouldn't wait in line for any of their products though.

I would argue the original iPhone is revolutionary. Also, the Macbook air revolutionized the laptop industry. Ultrabooks are based off its design. For a while Apple didnt even have a competitor for either of those products.

Actually come to think of it, the iPad was also revolutionary. Microsoft had clunky slow tablets for a while around 2001. I think they gave up. It wasn't until the iPad came out that companies started designing tablets again.

Pretty much the norm for Apple though. They make really nice hardware and get a premium for it. It's a hell of a machine though, I just wish they had gone with a discrete GPU instead of on chip. It's just not there yet and that machine will be plugged in for the heavy processing when it would be needed so battery life isn't an issue, just heat.

I own and have owned lots of Apple products. I use them every day, in a lot of different combinations with a lot of different files/users. Unless you stay completely in their ecosystem; they have all the same problems as every other computer/system out there. If you have the luxury of not working with anyone with anything but the most current OSX/iOS and their apps/programs then they're awesome. Add other users in enterprise (read business) environments and you have all kinds of problems.
