To make sure I didn't miss anything, has Dave ever answered this type of direct ranking question before? Couldn't find anything.

If not and someone asked him this now in 2022, do you think he'd give a direct answer? Or just say something like "I'm really enjoying playing these songs" right now and list a few, or "There's too many to choose from" etc.

Any updated guesses on what his Top 5 would be if he had to answer? Sounds like Jimi and Ants would have to be in there based on previous comments...

i dont think he's ever been directly asked that question, but i feel like i've heard him say things along the lines of "im really enjoying playing this right now" about some songs over the years.

he has said many times they he plays what he wants and that he doesn't care what people think before going into jimi thing and i think a few others.

just taking a look at the almanac will give you a pretty good idea of how he feels about songs. some songs go missing and then come back and get played a ton, so you know he's just feeling those at the moment. others, like jimi, have never really gone away.

i don't think there is any song, outside of maybe ants, that dave feels obligated to keep around in regular rotation. every song, including songs like crash, warehouse, nancies, and #41 have all had years where they were sparely played for whatever reason. dave obviously doesn't feel interested in playing it for whatever reason, and then he starts feeling it again the next year. so even if its a song we love, he has no problem not playing it if he doesn't want to.
