What do you all think Jerry’s best years were, in terms of his playing? Admittedly, I’m not the most knowledgeable Dead fan, but I have a handful of shows – one from 68, two from 74, one from 77, one from 89 (don’t remember the exact dates right now, I’m not at my home computer). From what I’ve heard, I really like his playing on the 77 show; it just seems much more melodic and fluid…and there’s just more of it in general. It seems like the 74 shows were much more “song based” and there wasn’t as much improvisation. And the 68 show is good too, but I’m just not as big of a fan of the material they had written at that point. And Jerry’s playing definitely had grown from the late 60’s to the late 70’s.

So yeah, just wondering what you guys can recommend if I really want to hear him at the top of his game. Thanks!
