You're right I don't think he died because of the hold that brought that giant career criminal resisting arrest to the ground. I believe that him having to be subdued with his existing very poor health problems mixed with his adrenaline level paired with positional asphyxia and a slow paramedic response were the factors that ultimately lead to his demise.
