Jordan will have his opinions, but I recommend going to Sunrise as opposed to Paradise. Most first timers go to Paradise, but I think the views are better at Sunrise.

There are a nice network of trails. My favorites on the Sunrise side are Fremont Lookout, Skyscraper Mtn., and Burroughs. All are pretty much the same view of Rainier, but it's a stunning one.
If you go, just make sure you get there before 10ish in the AM (earlier if you can) as the parking lot can fill up fast in the summer. 2ish hour drive from Seattle.
