I had this thought too, haha.

This should have been the easiest session ever (and Harris said after the Carter scare, it basically was smooth). It makes me wonder why this band full of unbelievable musicians has such a weird relationship with studio recording. This album in particular, after two years of road-testing it . . . just hit record and play!

Also, the "not feeling JTR, so we didn't include it" . . . I get it somewhat, because there is an intangible thing about when we do or don't enjoy a particular song. Or, we like it but maybe get tired of it. It's just hard for me to wrap my head around THAT song not making the cut.

I remember the first listen, and thinking "well, maybe JTR or SUAD was re-worked into You Never Know" (wasn't on the boards enough to know it had debuted live). 15 year old me was bummed, because those were two of my favorites off LWS. In fairness, SUAD is fairly by-the-book "fun" DMB song, but it was tonally SO different from the other tracks.

I love how Harris says Raven is maybe his favorite track on the album. I think it and Grey Street are perfect studio versions of those songs. They benefit from the minimalist production and a bit of editing from their LWS versions. Boyd and Roi are SO good on Raven. To this day, its liberation at St Louis 06 is one of my favorite live moments.
